Why hasn't Louisiana had more of a plan for this disaster?

I'm not blaming just Louisiana but also all coastal states. Louisiana is oil country and has the most to lose than any other state because of its wetlands and seafood industry. Why wasn't Bobby Jindal and other leaders all over BP when the spill happen? Why wasn't there huge pressure on everyone to clean up the oil as it was coming up from the well the first week. Now everyone is upset now that the oil is killing marine life. I've learned the hard way I have to take care of myself, no body else is gonna do it.

I would like to see LA get a bigger share of the money that comes from oil and gas production. We have been getting screwed for years. It would help in times like these.

That is a great idea. Louisiana needs to protect itself. No body is going to do it for them. Not the government or the Oil companies.

Same reason LA doesn't have a plan for an asteriod hitting the state.

Nobody knew the severity of it.

Comparing one's self to an entire state is a tad apples and oranges.

Just a question but what could LA do? Isnt this rig in FEDERAL waters? Even if its off the coast of LA does LA have any authority in the situation not in their waters?

What can LA do when BP and coast guard turn boats away from the coastal waters?

Please go play somewhere else.

Oil Companies knew and has known the severity of this happening 5,000 feet below the surface of the water. To say "Nobody" knew the severity of it is criminal.

?? So there is a lot the oil company knows that the state and fed dont know. What does that have to do with LA ignoring the Coast Guard and entering federal waters to go on its own?

In the first week? With the fire still burning? And no equipment to see what was going on down there?
Sorry, but nobody knew in the first week.
I will agree that BP did a shitty job in letting the world in on info. after they did get equipment down there, but there is no way of knowing what was going in the first week.

Don't link all coastal states together, FL you can't drill off the coast. Im not saying that we shouldn't of have a disaster plan in effect for when one of the other states had an accident.
But this is the reason to not drill off the coast of FL.
This sucks for the entire Gulf of Mexico and possibly more areas are to be affected.

Not much you can do when this much oil is spilled. the currents go where they want to. Oil goes along for the ride.
It's like planning for a tsunami, can't stop it, just have to get out of the way until it's over.

sovereign corporation owned by the state of Louisiana.
hire contractors to wildcat, and drill.
then the state OWNS all the oil. no piddly percentage.
no taking chances with 11 men's lives.
no taking chances period.
drill relief well BEFORE turning on the well.
have audio sensor activated shut off valve like BRazil does.

You're laughing. Isn't this what is required in other nations, including our neighbors to the north?

You'd think after Katrina we'd be a bunch of top notch 1st responders with scenarios out the wazoo. I saw the Saints do the impossible in my lifetime , Here's to hoping our Political environment becomes a winner too
