If he does, best catcher to come through LSU ever

quote:Not so sure. Cresse's 2000 season was ridiculous. He was hitting .400 going into CWS but his 2-13 slump dropped him to .388. He finished with a .388 Avg. and 30 homers and 106 RBIs. He won the Johnny Bench award and was a Golden Spikes finalist.

Gibbs by comparison is hitting .408 now w/ 8 homers and 54 RBIs

Gibbs will finish with 23 homers and 53 RBI to surge ahead of Cresse

Like others I dont see how he passes Cresse.. Of course Gibbs is doing it with less pop in his bat and less juice in his veins.

Also dont forget about Jorgensen of course he wasnt the starting catcher more of a DH if I recall.

Thought he was right before the change.
Think the change occured around 2000 he hit his 30 in 2000.. So its close to that time frame.

quote:No, the bats changed BEFORE the 1999 season. The 1998 national title game score of 21-14 prompted this. Cresse was playing w/ the new, "unjuiced" bats in 2000.

Not to Mention his walk-off base hit in the cws to score theriot!

I thought the first season with the new bats was either 2000 or 2001 which did result because of the title game you mention which is why I said around 2000.
Looking further the new bat rule took effect in August of 1999.

So Cresse did hit his 30 with the new bats but the rule took effect for that season not the season before.

my bad...cresse was a better power hitter; however gibbs is the best all around catcher lsu has ever had...he is incredible behind the plate especially with our "incredibly accurate" pitchers...haha

I will go over. Gibbs is the best all around catcher to come through LSU

If Lanier and Cresse had a baby it would probably resemble gibbs.. Good enough?

Man, some of y'all have short term memories. The bats changes in 1999. Ryan Jorgenson was never a DH. he was strictly a defensive catcher and had an average bat; however, he made it to the majors unlike Cresse. Tim Lanier batted like .250 and struck out more than anyone on that 1996 team, so I'm not sure why anyone would even jokingly say that Gibbs could be a spawn of Cresse and Lanier. As for my prediction, I'll say under .400. Gibbs bat just isn't as hot as it was and it is REALLY hard to keep you average up as high as his was.

Pretty sure I just posted a link saying the new rule went into effect in AUGUST of 1999. Which also in the link shows that the rulling was delayed til November of 1999. That would mean the first season it was in real effect would be the one that started in 2000.
I think Im thinking of Cresse being the DH in many games and RJ coming in and catching.
of course I DID say "if I recall"
As for Lanier who is saying he was a great batter? He was indeed a GREAT defensive catcher. I would 100% say he is the best defensive catcher in lsu history.
Cresse (offense) + Lanier (defense) = Gibbs.. Where is the joke?

I think you're forgetting Gary Hymel and Keith Osik. Tim Lanier is not the best defensive catcher we've ever had, I have to disagree.
also, what joke are you referring to? did i laugh or use a laughing emotion?
