i think he was just pissed in general, and that just loaded the bases and we had nobody in the pen

probably because Ranaudo was supposed to just come to the mound instead of the pen

he had to go stretch. He's already had an injury and prolly hurt right now. Don't want to make it worse

I thought he might have faked the argument w/the 1st base coach to get team & crowd fired up

I think PM had a valid argument there. MSU's 1st base coach was standing on the line when the catcher was giving signals. There is no reason he should be that close to fair territory at that time.

ETA: I was at the game at didn't realize the other teams coach was yelling out cutoff calls.

To me it looked like it was because Ott forgot how to get anyone out.

Ott was on a knee and grabbing his foot. The trainer was there looking at him and Mainieri just walked up a few feet from him and basically just motioned to gtfo.

On the Geaux Zone Hawthorn said that the 1st base coach was calling cutoff signals out loud yelling "2" "2" which he shouldn't have been doing, but what really seemed to piss him off was the ball called on one right over the plate from Ott that would have gotten the batter out. The strike zone last night was microscopic and inconsistent.

i'll take a stab at this ?

when he went to the mound to get ott, chris cotton started trotting on the field like he was coming in to pitch and CPM saw that and sent him back cause he wanted Renaudo to come in.

This is the answer. I think Buzzy sent Cotton in and Maineri was screaming for Ranaudo.

Who/What was Maineri fussing about while he was in the dugout when Ott was pitching? He seemed to be letting the expletives fly.

Yep, and that's one of the big reasons for 14-13 scores. Same thing happened in the Friday night game against Vandy where the score was 16-15. If you make a pitcher throw the ball right down the middle to get a call the ball's gonna get hit. I don't care if you're friggin Roger Clemens, they are going to hit it.

Well in the umpires defense LSU has had this problem all year. When pitchers run the count to 2-0 and 3-1 most of the time hitters are looking fastball. With a righty on the mound throwing 84 mph (Ott) and 87 mph (Bourgeious)fastballs down the middle the end result is 13 runs. It is imperative these guys down fall behind because their stuff is not good enough to survive falling behind all night!

Actually, Bourgeious was hitting 90/91 accroding to the cox gun. But you're essentially right in the assertion that any pitcher constantly pitching from behind in the count will have a hard time getting people out consistently.

On another note, has anyone noticed that Blake Dean refuses hit the ball to left field anymore? It seems everytime I watch LSU this year, Dean is getting out on groundballs to the right side - a sure sign of someone trying to pull the ball. He used to demolish lefties because he would go with the pitch.
