How is this not the governement's fault again? I know BP is responsible, but I recall them saying days after the revelation of the oil leaking that they were asking for help from anyone. It was obvious they don't know what they are doing. Why hasn't something been done to get the oil before it hit the marshes, i.e. Costner's machine, spreading hay and other options. Seems to me when Janet Napolitano came forward, that the US Government gave the state the power to get what they needed to stop this, i.e. loading and dumping sand to stop the oil on the barrier reefs, etc. Also, MMS was at fault too and they are part of the government. All political bs. I am sure Obama will come out scott free, unlike Bush. Sad for all of the wildlife and marsh land and ultimately we are screwing ourselves. This is our last line of defense against hurricanes. I am not an environmentalist, but it is sad to see those dolphins, turtles and bird dying because of this shite.

Someone give me some hope that this will be stopped and that things will get better.

Read the board. This stuff has been discussed 324 times in the past 3 weeks.

It seems that everything is being done that can. There is not magic fairy that can come along and just stop something this big.

And to answer your specefic question, the blame can be spread around to alot of different companies and agencies.

How can this be the government's fault? They did not own or operate any of the equipment that failed. They may have some level of oversight on this via the MMS, but it is not their (our) duty to clean this shite up.

From a big picture, I guess it could be argued, it is our fault for being so damn oil dependent.

There is a lawsuit going on about this.

After the rig collapsed and oil was found leaking. BP said they had it under control and called off the dogs. All forces were mobilizing then put on hold for a couple days until BP realized that it was a lot worse.

not exclusively, but seems that if BP didn't know what to do, who else do we fall back on? Should be the governement. If not them who? They are in charge of the Coast Guard. Why are they not telling BP what to do instead of the other way around?

I read that they missed 16 inspections on the rig. Don't you think on any of those they could have found out something was wrong and done something to have it fixed? If there is nothing they can do, then why have them at all. Not saying it is all the governement's fault, but they must share the blame. The local governments can only do so much. Seems like this is Katrina all over again. Guess I am just being a ranter.

The Corps has to get the ok from the EPA to do any of this. fricking slow arse federal government is killing us.

If this was really under the states control it would have started 20 days ago. But it is the Corps dredges and they can't get started without environmental impact studies from the EPA.

Seems like studies should have been done a long time ago.
