Watchn CBS nightly news and they said oil did not kill the turtles. They said something about shrimpers illegally enlarging their shrimp nets and caught the turtles.

Take it up with Katie Couric.

And my point is the turtles did not die because of oil, that should be pretty easy to comprehend

No need for the attitude. The man is just trying to pass along info. Nobody is saying that shrimpers killed the turtles.

Just rewound it. Word for word:

"Officials have said their death had nothing to do with oil"

"Federal authorities are investigating local shrimpers because they believe they illegally enlarged their nets in order to catch more shrimp before the oil slick hits"

So it looks like you know nothing about shrimping.

when they investigate they will find nothing........i know everything about nets...noway they could adjust their nets in that amount of time.....no need to adjust anything, just fish.....even if the shrimpers didnt use teds....it is still highly unlikey they caught a bunch of turtles....dude you have no idea what shrimping is about......i have a phd in shrimping......so step off.......

let me honestly tell you...even if all the boats in the fleet didnt use ted...it is still very unlikely that that many turtles got caught in the nets and where dumped drowned from the nets....you have to know how it was before the teds were law.....many boats out there with hardly ever a turtle caught......yes, sometimes it happened but not enough to warrant ted devices....shrimpers lost millions of dollars because of the device to only have maybe to have one turtle pass thru it in 10 years of shrimping but lose literally 15-20g a year per boat because of ted devices...........

Congratulations on your shrimping PHD

And you're right, I don't know anything about shrimping. You seem pretty adamant that they did not have time to enlarge their nets? How do you know when they adjusted their nets?

And any blow Joe could look at pics of the sea turtles and know they didn't die of oil. There wasn't a drop on em.

Btw, You're not being investigated are you?

i agree that oil didnt kill them.......but shrimpers didnt either....

nevermind guys its useless to explain when you dont understand the dynamics of trolling on a big boat...timing and knowing how things work....

peace out...have fun

Annnnnnd what if they skipped on the special turtle proof nets because they didn't want to risk losing all of their catch with the short amount of time available to them to catch shrimp.

With the amount of oil and how dispersed it is, the main wildlife concern is causing cancer.

I doubt those turtles got and died of cancer within days. Deaths due to higher and sudden fishing seems a LOT more likely.

Nope, they died suddenly of oil, with no oil on them.

Only way I can see is if they gobbled up a floating tarball, and I dunno if there that many where the turtles were at when they were found.

ok when a turtle is caught in a large trawl bag in which their are usually 2 of them dragging bottom(sea turtles to begin with steer clear of dirty water as much as possible to begin with)if a turtle is caught in the one of the bags to begin with their are several different types of species that will be trapped in each bag..they rub, cut and drag each other.....depending on the "try net" and what is being caught in the area the shrimpers are fishing, drag could last around 4 hours.....a turtle caught in a bag....will most definetely get "beat up" badly..were these turtles beat up or just dead and no apparent damage?..like mentioned before....my uncle fished for 30 plus years and he caught one turtle that was already dead.....the majority of those years without a ted device before it was mandated....for that many turtles to wash ashore during a time frame that was all together........well, that would be impossible that number one, one boat caught them and dumped(impossible)them and number two, that many shrimp boats in one day caught that many turtles in a couple of days and dumped them....impossible......trust me many fisherman have it figured out how to fix the teds anyways and they still dont catch turtles.....if you know shrimping, most shrimp are caught in dirty muddy waters where shrimp can dig in to cool off...they dont bury themselves in sand or clear water..they pool along mud beds on the gulf bottom and reefs in usually 15/20 ft or water...
