Jindal needs to grow some balls and take a bold stance

After seeing the shoddy protection and apparent lack of effort by those in charge to protect Louisiana's fragile coast Jindal needs to send a message to the country that Louisiana will no longer accept half arse effort and empty promises.
It is time to shut down all oil and gas activity off of the LA coast until Louisiana receives a significantly greater share of revenues from offshore oil/gas activity. These much increased revenues will be used to prepare for, clean up, protect and rebuild our coastlines. If the US does not comply we declare our sovereignty and claim all revenues up to 200 nautical miles from our coast and send it all the way up to the Supreme Court. We may and probably will lose but it will raise some eyebrows and draw some attention in the process.
Maybe then the rest of the country will realize how important LA is to the rest of the country and will stop shitting all over us at every opportunity.

im all for it, but..... last time i checked LA didn't have a standing army capable of this. money talks and bs walks and washington would never let all that money walk away

great in theory and all, but we have our own crooked politicians and lazy citizens that elect them to blame as much as anyone.
also, as mentioned, you would need a military to defend against the U.S.

I think you should go to the capital and not leave so you can tell him to his face!

Would the US really send the military to invade Louisiana if we threatened to shut down production off our coast?
I don't think the people of the US would be very accepting of that after LA presented its argument.

I absolutely would if I didn't have to work.

hot damn, son of Venezuela.
PS. its not happening unless you start a new party and actually become governor and all the state legislators are replaced.

I know. But we have all of these resources that get taken for granted by everyone. Only a select few are willing to do what we do off our coast and we should have the leverage to demand to be more than adequately compensated.
We should be the one of the richest states in the union...not the poorest.

They wouldn't have a leg to stand on! They can't force ANY state to drill off their coast LA included.

Ain't he a hoot?
We have an aspiring Einstein on the board today. Let just tells the US government to frick off. We're going solo.

i bet they would. they would view it as "LA is being greedy" or "LA is trying to screw the rest of us". people are selfish.

What percentage goes to the state from the huge gas field in NW Louisiana?
I observe stories in the western PA press that the Monongehela river is no longer potable water. (there is a comparable field in western NY and PA) The process of breaking up the rock layer 15,000 feet down, requires water. Where does the processed water go? And who is guaranteeing the process yeilds clean water?

The more you say the more you prove the point everyone reading this knows. Stop now.

Production wouldn't be shut down permanently. Just long enough to show the US how important we are and how we are taken for granted. Probably shut in for about as long as a hurricane shut down would do it.
Louisiana would have to put on a media blitz of facts and figures during the shut down to sway public opinion in our favor. If the US doesn't respond we do it again for a little longer this time. They will eventually get the picture.
