When CNS was at LSU did he let the younger QB's have a shot at starting or did he just play the older more experienced one???
Need help on this topic because I didn't pay attention to CNS when he was at LSU.
TIA

Always played the older guy. Booty, Davey, Mauck, Randall. He took forever in giving Davey a shot over Booty.

In fact, specifically brought Mauck to LSU (Mauck was a former recruit of Saban's from Michigan State that went baseball out of high school) because he was an older guy and LSU was inexperienced at QB.

it was a QB shuffle in even # years...stuck with one qb in odd # years.

We won the SEC in odd # years under Saban coincidentally

A tiger can't change his stripes, i guess I should give up on the young QB getting a shot to start this year.

Thanks

I would say he mostly gave the older players a shot first.

In 2000, he played Booty (mostly). In 2001, it was Davey. Both were seniors in their respective seasons.

In 02 he started Mauck, but then Mauck got injured and Randall took over. Both Mauck and Randall were sophomores, I believe.

In 03, it was Mauck in his junior year, then he went pro afterwards.

In 04, there was a bit of a controversy between Randle and Russell. Both played in just about every game. Looking back on it, Russell ended up making the most plays, but he made a lot of mistakes also. In the Cap One Bowl, Saban played all three QBs, including Matt Flynn.

So you want CNS to abandon the qb that led your team to a NC in favor of an untested, untried rookie. Perfect example of gump reasoning. Once a gump, always a gump. Don't worry! Your fair-haired boy will get to play a lot this year considering the powder-puff schedule the Gumps play.

I don't know, there are plenty around here that bitch when a freshman does not come in and start right away because of perceived "talent" over experience.
