it makes no sense to trade the guy when you could have just traded the pick.
not necessarily. trade talks could've been in the works, but time was running out. Saints pick the guy that Wash wants, also a guy that the Saints could use, and then continue the talks throughout the day and night. It could also be that Wash contacts Saints after they pick Rob, tell NO that they are interested, and begin chatter from there.
it could all just be BS caused by some a-hole writer who gets a kick out of fricking with us Saints fans. If that's the case, then we tell the Muslims that this reporter has a picture of Muhammad on his desk

After defending the pick all last night, I would be PISSED if the Saints did this.

Another little angle for why we made the selection is that Drew Brees was planning to announce the pick and the Madden cover, and EA Sports obviously handpicked that exact commercial break to debut their first Madden 11 commercial.
I know that is completely insignificant when compared to possibly acquiring up to 2 new starters, but coupled with the time factor it's just another tidbit.
Another poster explained it better - rather than cramming a blockbuster trade into a 10 minute window we took who Washington wanted and that gave us 24 more hours to hash it out.
I'm hoping it's true - it would be a much easier sell than already giving up on Malcolm who showed in the playoffs and Super Bowl that he has the makings of a very good nickel CB.
I just don't buy that we're already giving up on the #14 overall pick last year as a CB. He improved throughout the year.

This was my initial thought. Kind of like trades in the NBA draft.

I'm 100% okay with Landry, but our coverage will be serverly lacking with Harper and Landry back there, assuming Sharper is gone. So, in other words...I'm not 100% good with Landry.
I'm ok with Landry taking over for R. Harper and U. Young/M. Jenkins playing FS. Landry and Harper in the same secondary equals a lot of over the top passing.
Maybe we are looking at going to a 4-2-5 defense:
W. Smith - S. Ellis-A. Haynesworth- A. Brown
S. Shanle - J. Vilma
J. Greer - L. Landry - M. Jenkins - R. Harper - T. Porter
