For those of you bitching about JJ

Look at the games he played when we had a running game. Mostly the Arkansas game and Ga Tech game from a year ago. He played well and we should have won both. Stupid arse defensive penalties killed us against Arkansas.
I don't care who you have, drew brees, whoever. If you don't have a running game, you will not be successful. Only qb that comes to mind is Peyton. I can't think of anyone else.
If JJ had a running game, he would be a much better qb.

Had success before without a running game. Just didn't always translate into wins.
Not a good comparison btw.

Most people think that it's JJ's self-inflicted problems that give cause and concern. Everyone will give him a pass for poor O-line protection. However, some of the poor accuracy in passing, and poor decision-making is what makes people concerned about his / LSU's future.

This is like a chicken/egg argument.
Without a passing game, no one will respect the pass and will put enough people in the box to make the running game nonexistent. Until you can show you can pass ... forget about a running game.
The one thing I notice about JJ is that he can hit a man when there is a breakdown in the secondary and we have a WR running wide open. Or, when a TE just does a quick in-route and is wide open.
He seems unable to read a defense and fit the ball in any possible "tight" spot that all QBs must do if you are going to have a successful running game.
From my perspective, the kid just doesn't have it upstairs to be even a decent SEC QB.

Look, most are just looking at his lake of pocket presence as well as shitty footwork. He bails out like Aaron Brooks. No running game will make the guy fundamentally sound.

So did JJ. What I am saying is you can't have a running game and expect to be successful. Success means winning. If you can't run, the defense will blitz and you will be on your arse. This applies from pee wee league to the nfl.
I will have 2008 running success in 2009, JJ would have done far better than he did.

Having a good running game will not overcome a teams QB being dumb as a brick bat.

FAIL.
Normally you would be correct. But our offense is so bad, teams STACK THE LINE to stop the run. DARING us to pass it. Even with single coverage on 2-3 WRs Jordan Jefferson STILL CAN NOT complete passes.
You actually have it completely backwards - IF we had ANY sort of passing game, our running game would take off. That said, I still hope that JJ has hit rock bottom after embarrassing himself last year and in the spring game. There is no where to go but up.

Then that is the coaches fault, which is what I have been saying all along. First JL was not ready, then JJ wasn't ready, then Shep wasn't ready. Why are they not ready? It is the fing coaches. It is there job to get these kids ready, otherwise wtf is the reason to have coaches. This is why I wanted Crowton gone, but that is another topic for discussion.

So JL was dumb and so is Shep? I find that hard to believe. It is the system if they can't grasp it. Not all three qb's are dumb.

when was the last time he had a good run game to work with? that would be georgia tech and no, he did not look dumb in that game. i think people call him dumb b/c he is black and has an accent. he is actually a good student and a good kid. give him a decent oline and running game, and he is good enough to lead us to a 10-2 record, which is basically what jamarcus and flynn did.
also, put him on Bama's team last year, and he goes undefeated.

We had one of the best running corps in the country... dumb statement. If he could throw the ball it would have improved our ability to utilize those great backs.

If all he needs is a running game then why did he suck in the spring game. Didn't the running backs have a pretty good performance?

the line was manhandled on a regular basis. this is the root cause of our issues.

You're completely wrong because IF we had ANY sort of passing game, our running game would take off.
A lot of that has to do with scheme. I don't recall seeing JL do much better. It is coaching.

I agree

O line and coaching had a lot to do with that. Scott was the same back. He can throw the ball, but you can't be one dimensional.

Absolutely true, but that is going into a whole other argument entirely from the OPs statements.

He's part of the reason we don't have a running game. Almost anybody can stop the run if they know they don't have to worry about a deep passing game.

Spring game is a glorified scrimmage. Remember when Les said last year this is the best o line ever? You can't base his performance on that one game. shite, JL threw a pick six and everyone wants him to start.

Again, I don't recall Flynn doing this a lot and we were fine. I am not saying JJ is great, but if he had a running game, he would be much better. JL had this and still threw all of those pick sixes.
