there is a pretty good little sandwich / hamburger and breakfast place across the street from the Alamo..I don't remember the name but it has a sign in the window that says 6.95 or 7.95 ribeye sandwich. Not a bad place for a quick bite. It does it crowded.

Wouldn't even know where to begin. But when I go I usually try to make a trip to the mercado during the day and dinner at the river walk at night. Obviously you're going to get great Mex or Tex Mex at just about any place you randomly stumble into there but they have plenty of other great dining options as well on the riverwalk.

I'm a tourist, and DGAS, but, I like Mi terras, take the trolley, it's next to the market. And Dirty Nellys on the River Walk..If DN's is still open, just a small bar to sing along, drink beer and relaxe.

Dirty Nelly's isn't much of a family type place though is it? I thought it was kinda like John Valby

That's probably true.. Honestly, I haven't been in a few years, so I'm not sure they're still open. If staying on the RW, they could leave the kids at the pool for a couple of hours and just walk the river, joint jumping,,, similar to Bourbon St.

ETA:,, forgot about Fiesta Texas! That's a good place for the whole family..

There is a place on the Riverwalk where you can grind your own flour for biscuits in the mornings. I can't remember the name of it.

ETA: Guenther House!
