I know this was probably discussed in the other thread, but Richard's wife (name now escapes me) - who was she really both times:

1. The first time - was it the Black smoke? If so, they made it look like MIB was in two places at once because you could hear the black smoke. If it was actually her ghost, how could the black smoke then kill her?

2. The second time - we can assume it was really her as we have seen Hurley communicate with the dfead, right? Based on that, I don't see how anyone still thinks Jacob is bad. She clearly seemed to be on his side in her communication to Richard via Hurley.

I say it was MIB. The smoke can do anything it wants to on the island IMO and even pretend to kill a hallucination. He was using her to manipulate him just like he's done in the past with people he's "scanned".

It was her IMO precisely because she told Richard not to let him off the island.

Its been confirmed that the Black Smoke can split in human form in "The Cost of Living", so I assume it was him manifesting himself into Isabella and the Black Smoke.

Smokie can only turn into Locke and the Smoke now, so yeah it had to have been her.

Richard is present both times. He can see her the first time but not the second which seems to mean that it is two different incarnations of Isabella. The only people on the island (that we know of) at the time of the first incarnation is Jacob, MIB and Richard. We know Richards isn't Isabella, so he's out. We also know that, according to the rules, MIB and Jacob can't kill each other, so that that excludes the possibility of Isabella being a form of Jacob (unless they are working together . . mind blowing). This means that the only possibility left (according to what we know) is that Isabella is a conjecture of MIB.

That is what the writers want us to assume. But is it really out of the realm of possibility that the conjecture seen by Hurley was simply a form of MIB or Jacob? I'll hold off on this for now.

This I don't get. She basically told him to let her go and move on. I don't remember telling him anything about helping Jacob or being aligned with Jacob. Remember, Richard was trying to kill himself in the episode before.
