So whats the deal?

I have not been to an lsu game in about a week and a half. I am guessing the pitching has been bad. I have been reading the articles and it does not talk about bad pitching. Is it RISP BA? Whats the deal people!!!!

In the losses, just not closing innings out and bunching hits together. I am unaware of too many XBH over the weekend. Lots of wasted singles basically.

Friday there were 4 errors eventhough only 2 were credited and 4-5 hit batsmen. Also 4-5 of Kansas's hits were on flares when they were badly fooled, just threw the bat out there and it floated over the infield. They hit 2-3 balls hard and 2 of the 3 were in outfielders' gloves. Mahtook's should've been caught. Watkin's layed out and it came out when he hit the ground. Still, a lot of things happened that you couldn't see if just looking at stats.

Bourgeios lost it in the 2nd inning Friday, gave up 6 runs and basically set the tune for the rest of the game. Three freshmen came in over the next 5 innings and gave up 5 more runs, not bad but were in to just eat up innings.

Today Rittiner lost his spots in his last inning and started to get touched up for 4 runs.

Hitting I'm not worried about. Mainieri has been tinkering with the lineup at 3B and LF with Landry in the DH for the time being. I think as Landry gets back in the outfield, Gaudet may lose his job to Didier or Dozar if he can't get out of his funk.

Don't look into this series too heavily, there were many positives in their first "true weekend test". Clearly they would have liked to win being the better team, but this team will be that much better when the top pitcher in the nation is inserted.

It also seems that we're walking and getting behind way too many batters. Last year we had a phenomenal strikeouts-walks ratio....thus far we haven't seen that. Though it is still way too early to draw any conclusions about this team. Every team goes through a stretch of rough games like this, let's hope we get the kinks worked out this week and take at least 2-3 from the hogs.

I agree. Without AR this team is much less just over powering. I am going to make a game this week since SLU is out of town. They don't lose when I go it seems lol. Last year they were 12-3 in games I went to. I'm good luck.

Also I understand taking early in the game to drive up the pitch count and try to get the starter out of the game. What's the purpose in the later innings though? I remember 1-2 at bats where LSU hitters swung at the 1st pitch. A lot of times they took until they had 2 strikes. This was in the last 3 innings Friday btw. They seemed to get into bad situations and then had to swing at the pitcher's pitch. Just an observation

Your mind must have been hitting the bottle when you wrote that. I'm pretty sure you meant "mind boggling."

Sunday our batters started out 0-2 on every count. We usually lose the game in 1 inning.

we lost 2 games. I didn't see any, but let's look at the stats.

Friday we lost 11-9.

Sunday we lost 8-4.

Bourgeois started friday. He faced 12 batters. Walked 3 and gave up 5 hits.
2nd inning for bourgeois, he gave up 6 runs => 2B, 1B, 1B, BB, SF, flyout, wild pitch, 2B, BB.
Cotton came in and gave up a single for another run, and he ended the inning with a flyout.

Cotton had a crappy 4th inning: 2B, 2B, 2B, K, HBP, flyout, 1B, flyout. Gave up 3 runs.

Really hard to blame the hitting on that loss, as we scored 9 runs.

For the Sunday game, sure we can put more blame on the offense, but in the end we gave up 8 runs.
Rittiner started, he gave up a run in the 1st.
In the 5th: flyout, 2B, 2B, 1B, SF, 1B, 2B, groundout. 5 runs.

Guys must be just getting hit hard. That's a lot of doubles in those big innings.

Kansas is a regional team. We don't have our ace, and our other starters are still gaining experience. Ross pitched well and that was a nice bright spot this weekend. Rittiner is still learning but pitched fairly well yesterday. Bourgeios got rocked on Friday, but let's not forget that was his first Friday start against a very good team at LSU. Between Rittiner, Bourgeois, and Matulis we need 2 of those guys to step up to be a CWS team IMO.
