Tiger Band Question

Can someone please explain to me the love affair that our band has with the Bon Jovi hit "Livin on a Prayer". It's almost 25 years old and it makes no sense to me why we play it every football and basketball game. 
Wouldn't Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" make more sense.
I'm not trying to be an a-hole. Someone please explain it to me.

The crowd sounds good singing it 
But I hate that we sing, "it doesn't even matter if we make it or not." that kind of pisses me off

Bc it is a freakin classic and the band plays it great. It also is one of my personal favorites bc I drained 6 3's in the 4th quarter during a furious comeback in middle school in 8th grade, while this song was stuck in my head. But.....we still lost.

As some have said, the band also plays Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'". You're reading way too much into it.

Tiger Band always has a few "Signature" songs that's played year in and year out. We did back in the 70's/80's too. It's a TB tradition.
BTW, what's the latest on Linda and Roy. Are they both coming back next year? Will any of the BS "Cuts" be made this season?......

They're playing LOAP at the Box at this moment.

It started a few years ago when they played it in halftime for homecoming and folks spontaneously started singing it
after that, they started to incorportate a lot of newer songs
