How many people expect to be charged for a glass of water

at a resturant when you order a full meal?
not talking about bottled water or sparkling water, just water?
I say no

I say you missed the entire point of what I said in the other thread. It was more about making some realize that glass of water your order does cost the restaurant. It's never free.

I still expect that I will not be charged for a glass of water, just like I do not expect to be charged for using the utensils, condiments, restroom, and many other things that the resturant does incur a cost for

You think you don't pay for all of that? That's a shitty business model if you don't.

At 95% of the restaurants in La, you will not see a charge on your receipt if you order tap water with your meal.
Now spin that and fight about it any way you want, but that is just how it is.
Unless I am eating dinner at a high end place, I expect tap water to be free. Of course I would never order water with any real meal though.

It is the cost of doing business, it is absorbed with other cost items, it happens in almost every business

I don't believe a patron should pay for tap water. The cost is miniscule and whatever the owner has to pay for water is easily made up for by paying his waiters 2.13 an hour and/or getting the wait staff to clean the restaurant instead of hiring a cleaning crew. That's how it went where I waited a few years back.
Just saying.
Just saying.

So all drinks (non-alcoholic) should be free?

who the hell said that, and no i do not think they should be free. It is customary to not charge for tap water, just like it is customary to tip neither are required and I would of been pissed at someone saying that they did not tip just b/c they did not have to

Nope. I expect to pay $2 or more for iced tea or a soft drink. That is the norm.

Hell no you shouldn't be charged for water in Louisiana. In Nevada or Arizona you might get away with it because of the droughts.

What is your fricking point??
In one post you say that its in the business model just like the utensils.. In another thread you compare tap water to a fountain drink.
Should I pay outright for a restaurant to wash the dishes I used in the SAME water? Or should I expect it to be included in the price of my meal?
BTW what fricking restaurant does this? I have somehow made it 32 years in my life and NEVER once was charged for water in any restuarant.
Hell almost every restaurant gives me a glass of water if I ask for it or not. BTW idiots also need to get rid of the notion that ordering water is being cheap.. Some people dont want to load down their system with HFCS.

if it's specifically listed on the menu, yes
in the 99.99% of restaurants where it's not, no

at one point in my younger life it was the norm to have a glass of water at the table when you sat down...now in many places you have to ask...what is with that? Cleanse the pallet between courses....also makes my wine last longer.

Sure but it should be embedded into the price of the other menu items.
That's like saying there should be an extra line item for paying the kitchen staff on your bill.

it is hard to order water and scotch and not have them mix the two. I hate sounding like a dick, but I always have to say that I want a glass of water and a glass of scotch...NOT MIXED. still it comes back mixed sometimes.
as for the charge who cares? the extra $2 for water on the bill isn't going to make much of a difference when the bill is $60+. Go to McDonalds next time they are more than willing to accommodate cheap diners.

when cokes are 2 bucks, water should be free, imho. hardly anyone orders water anyway. i always get water with lemon and they never charge me for either, unless its bottled.

How does asking for water make you a cheap diner?
If anything I would expect McDonalds to charge you for it since they have to give you a cup.

complaining about being charged for water is being cheap. ordering water is not cheap.
I just think people who go to a restaurant and expect free goods are cheesy. so what it doesn't cost them much to supply the water, it is their business. in the grand scheme it doesn't cost them hardly anything to add tea bags to water, but often those aren't even free refills.
