Donovon's Everton situation

does anyone else think the MLS is stupid to disallow Landon Donovon from staying on with Everton for the rest of the season? The MLS has to realize it is not a top flight league and has to let players move on, especially if its in the player and national team's best interest.

No...he's under contract. Why in God's name would they release their most valuable ($$) player?
That's like, oh shite, I have a million dollars in the bank, but I'm not a top flight business, let's give it to AIG

I don't understand why Landon signed an extension with MLS. I totally understand why MLS is holding onto Landon. He will get them about 10-12 million dollars in 4 months.

Because before his spell at Everton he has done nothing but fail in Europe.

Uhh...he played 6 games at Bayern Munich and was on Leverkusen's teams as a teenager. You make it sound like he had some Jose Antonio Reyes years in Europe.

Today Everton tried to extend the loan deal, but the Galaxy harshly declined. I blame Bruce Arena.

I wouldn't do it either, if I were Bruce. Everton, if they want him, should buy out his contract. If I'm Arena, I'm not letting my best player, and MLS's biggest price tag, just walk.
If CBA doesn't sort out and the season is delayed, then extend his deal. If not, see you on an American pitch in 3.5 weeks, Cakes.

He probably gets sold after the World Cup.

this. It's notorious for inflating prices on players. Why not wait for his value to maximize (in theory) and then sell him?
It sucks imo, but I definitely don't understand why he signed that deal with Galaxy.

He was being cautious as his previous stints in Europe had failed. Not to mention if Everton buys out his contract, the Galaxy, MLS and Donovan stand to make some serious dough.

3 stints in Europe. First one as a teen, which he sucked, is understandable.
He went back to Bayer, and was pretty bad the second time around. Played miserable in a champs league game...Bayer said frick it after this. They had enough of suck from him
Went back a few years later and made no impact on Bayern. They didn't extend a loan offer on a trial period.
3 failed attempts, and he gave up quickly after each time.
How is this not fail?

If he keeps squandering chances at Everton, it's going to color this stint there too, even though he and the team have been really good since he went there.

I understand that, but, transfers are part of the game. If Manchester United can let go of Christiano Renaldo, the Galaxy can let go of Donovan.
Also, you don't endear yourself to players by denying them transfers to opportunities.

He had to sign the new contract to get the loan approved, that was part of the deal. Doesn't mean he won't get sold at some point though.
