Risers

Eric Berry/S/Tennessee: Berry impressed scouts by weighing 212 pounds and completing 19 reps on the bench. His 40 was fast ... in the high 4.3-second area. He was near flawless in drills, displaying quick and fluid footwork moving in reverse, a terrific burst to the ball and the ability to change direction on a dime without losing momentum.

Sliders

Chad Jones/S/LSU: Jones ran reasonably well, timing in the mid-4.5s, yet did nothing to dispel the belief he's solely a downhill safety. He was incredibly slow in reverse and displayed poor footwork. He looked a bit confused on the field and had to be stopped in drills several times to be given direction.

PFW

"Having stood out on the diamond as an outfielder for LSU and gone on record for saying that baseball was his first passion, Jones had some questions to answer during interviews about how he would handle adversity if his football career did not go his way. He did nothing to quash perceptions that he cannot be trusted to maximize his talent, as his interview was described as one of the worst of the allotted 60 that every team is given. Not only did he appear dispassionate in interviews, he clocked in the high 4.5s in the 40--slower than expected--and repped 225 pounds only nine times at 221 pounds, poor for a safety of his size, regardless of whether baseball has affected his conditioning."

Jones can become very frightening with the right coaching, whether he stay at safety or be moved to outside linebacker

How can you say that? Chavis coached Eric Berry and Chad Jones.

Taylor Mays is 10X the prospect that Chad Jones is.

except the guy can't even back pedal.

LINK Despite Taylor Mays' impressive showing in the forty-yard dash, SI.com's Tony Pauline points out that the USC safety sported poor form during position drills.

Mays was "terribly slow moving in reverse" and appeared to be "uncomfortable" backpedaling during drills. Mays also had major trouble changing direction, often coming to a complete stop as opposed to making a smooth transition. Pauline believes Mays will have trouble in man coverage and making plays sideline-to-sideline. The same concerns dogged him at the Senior Bowl.

except Chad can't even walk or figure out the directions.

I like how you conveniently left this one out. From SI.com: Chad Jones/S/LSU: Jones ran reasonably well, timing in the mid-4.5s, yet did nothing to dispel the belief he's solely a downhill safety. He was incredibly slow in reverse and displayed poor footwork. He looked a bit confused on the field and had to be stopped in drills several times to be given direction.

no but the SI report on Mays just re-affirms what everyone already knew. The guy can't cover worth anything. Roy Williams 2.0

I'm done. Draft day will tell and you know what will happen.

Of course your response, as it already is, will be that the team that drafts Mays ahead of Jones is just plain stupid and does not know anything about the safety position. I think you are homing.
