Does our staff outside of Renaudo have what it takes to take us back to Omaha? This is the only question mark for me on this season. I had a chance to talk to PM briefely on the subject and he was super confident but feeding me prerecoded lines as he usually does.

I don't think it's going to be a depth problem. We have a lot of good pitchers. I think it's going to come down to who can emerge as that "second ace". We had a 2 headed monster last season with AR and LC. If no one steps up into that role, you're really going to see how important it was that LC came back for his senior year in regards to us winning the NC last season.

There are 3 or 4 that potentially can step up to that level, it's just a matter of going from "good" to "great".

We lost Coleman and Jones for the most part. The staff is loaded...very very deep.

Ranaudo will be better, Ott will be better, Ross will be better, Matulis will be better...

Bourgeois and Lasuzzo are looking good...with dependable Bertuccini in the setup spot. Hopefully Bradshaw and Alsup step it up.

I think everybody is freaking out because of basically one pitcher...Coleman. And he never really developed into a dominant starting pitcher until his last year.

I truly think this year's pitching will be better than last year.

Someone will emerge...even if it has to be Ott.

I think Ross, with the added change up is gonna be that guy.

I couldn't agree more. The talent level on the mound is loaded. We have so many pitchers that were drafted out of high school it's rediculous. The potential of what the staff could be is very interesting and exciting. I feel that it could end up being better than last year as well!

He is a gimmick pitcher and once the other lineup figures him out he is effectively worthless.

You dont "figure" out that kind of stuff. He has pretty damn good control considering his ball is moving all over the place. The times he has problems is NOT because the other team is "figuring" him out...it's because he cant find the strike zone.

Ill take Bert's 3.8 ERA with 31 Ks and 15 bbs in 25 innings any day. You need a ground ball for a DP...he's probably your guy. The thing you dont like is that in a few games...he's gonna blow up...but it's worth it.

I think so for sure if Watkins is as good as advertised, and Gibbs stays healthy...hell...any of the infielders stay healthy. The lack of infield depth is the biggest concern. Other than that, this is a Championship caliber team...no doubt.

Yes. The only real question mark is whether Ross steps up to the two hole or does someone leapfrog him. Should be a real battle for that spot. The bullpen should be stout. Bottom line, in college baseball, with two pre-season AA and a pen full of young arms, pitching should not be a huge concern.

Louis is the least of my concerns at this point. In fact I thought him to be horribly overrated during his stay here in Baton Rouge

Berrtucini I am not going to lie I cannot stand.

Oh, ok.

Matty Ott I'm my opinion still hasn't proven himself as the dominate "Trevor Time" pitcher alot of people see him as. He can change that I think with some strong showings early in the season.

Sorry his run last year wasn't enough for you.

Wow, aren't you special. I feel sorry for PM because that was time wasted in his life that he won't get back.

Seems no one remembers DJ and Schimpf....these two carried the team a good bit last year. J Mitchell also made it hard on people with his on base percentage.
This team may be as good as last years, but it is far from a given.
Nola has to improve his average by 60 points!
You lost 3 hitters in your top 5 batters...
I personally believe we will be fine, but it will take 20-25 games to figure out who needs to be where.....as it usually does.

Pitching will be fine.

Can you prove me otherwise? Such as big game domination?

Son, anyone who thinks Coleman was "horribly overrated" has no credibility. Rational people can disagree on things, but Coleman was the heart and soul of last year's team. He was money.

Ott butt fricked Texas for the last few innings of game 1.

Beat me to it...

3 innings
0 hits
3 K's

Pitched 2 innings where if he had allowed a run, the game would have ended, then in his 3rd inning, basically "saved" the game.

But yeah, the original poster is right. I think he needs to get a few good games under his belt early this season to prove himself...

You mean besides pitching 3 scoreless innings in a tie game (2 in extra innings) against Texas in the Championship round of the World Series? How much bigger of a situation is there than that?

The guy had 16 saves, averaged about 1.5 strikeouts per inning pitched, had an 11:1 strikeout to walk ratio, and had an ERA of 2.68.

I'd say it says a lot about you that you haven't figured out how good Ott is yet.

Add that to the fact that you thought Coleman was overrated, and I'd say your opinion doesn't mean much.

Since you are only 8 posts in, you may just want to give up on the WestCoastTigah username and start over.

Okay so what you all are saying is that 3 innings in one game = domination? That is three innings people nothing dominate about that at all. I am not trying to jock on the dude but he is hardly worth the hype he receives. If you listened to LSU fans you would think he is Mariano Rivera/Eric gagne/Trevor Hoffman all in one.
