Sorry Hebert was not the cause of our poor offense.
No, he wasn't THE cause but he didn't help things. He was constantly on the ground while his guy was running free up the middle at the QB. A full year of strength training should help T-Bob out immensely.

I played center a bit in high school and after watching P.J. Lonergan in the bowl game it became clearly evident to me why the coaches kept playing an injured T-Bob Hebert over Lonergan. Lonergan is still learning just how to play center.
Yeah, I watched the tape from the La. Tech game on Lonergan. While he really does well in run blocking it was obvious he was making bad calls (through horrible protection break downs).

This. So many people do not understand centers are not just guys who snap the ball and block anyoone. They are the QBs of the OL. They need to make audibles and calls on the fly and Lonergan just doesnt have that vision or ability right now.

I really wonder if some of you have ever played or understand center play.
1. O
2. playside gap
3. backside linebacker.

it took you long enough to get here, I was getting worried that the OL bat signal wasn't working
Stud's job is on the line(no pun intended)but his day of playing favorites is over. In spring practice, Lonergan will win the center position. Bignasty69, a former LSU player stated Stud loves T-Bob and that is why he is playing ahead of PJ. Well the divorce is about to happen come spring practice.By the way, the OL bat radar is working just fine and will always find T-Bob the "mosquito."

thunderbird's o line with allen or worle leading for ford and/or ridley. scary for the rest of the sec

He likes T-Bob over Lonergan because T-Bob understands the position while Lonergan doesn't yet. Do you not understand Center play? Did you watch Lonergan look clueless at times to make calls that were needed when he did play?

miles wasted shaw's fr. yr for mop up duty now he's a jr who has only played in about 3 games instead of a RS-soph
Posted on 2/12/10 at 2:13 pm to aglandry
seriously, ag, are you PJ's granddad? a relative? I've seen it mentioned and your posts seem to back it up. if you are on Team PJ, don't you think you're just a little biased?
I mean, prior to PJ getting significant PT, it was all about T-Bob not being good. PJ gets a couple starts and we still look lackluster and it's Stud's coaching. well if Stud isn't coaching the guys up, wouldn't T-Bob also be a victim of that as well?

it really does boggle the mind. he played against App St his freshman yr. and that was it. the first game! hell Herm mighta played in about 3 games before his "spider bite" or whatever. JJ was destined for a RS with his shoulder thing until Hatch went down. why wasn't this done with Shaw?

bignasty69 did say that Stud played favorites. That's really the only thing I am afraid of with next year's o-line. The young talant like Hurst and Blackwell are just waiting to play, but I'm afraid we will see more of the same.

The one who looked clueless was T-Bob. He stays on his back more than a prostitute.

ive always thought shaw had potential but he will only have 1 yr to show it..miles screwed up on that one

that was the CA thread, I was in there and remember.

well one of the 2 is gonna break in now that Hitt's gone. I could possibly see both starting.
I'm hopeful about the OL with WIlkerson being on board and the 1st time starters and other young guys getting a taste of the big time.

LG
(6'4, 300) JR. Will Blackwell or (6'7, 336) rFR. Josh Williford
- By all accounts it seems like the staff is projecting 1 of these 2 guys here anyways and I like both ideas. Blackwell is a bit seasoned as a backup and brings a defensive attitude to the offensive side of the ball. Williford by many accounts has made huge strides since last spring and should challenge big time for a starting spot. Blackwell gets the edge in experience, but let's be honest, seeing a jumbo LG once again would bring back so many good memories form Herman Johnson when we actually ran the ball well with Josh Williford starting here. Plus, nothing like getting a recruit from AL and have him road grade through Alabama and Auburn who didn't pay much attention to him in the recruiting process.
C
(6'3, 285) JR. T-Bob Hebert
- Hebert had a tough year still dealing with his injury but I fully expect him to put on a little more weight and be 100% for next fall. He is our best signal caller at center and has been playing center since pee-wee football. Many native Louisianans want to see PJ Lonergan here but I simply do not believe he is our best option at center as long as Hebert is here and healthy. Ideally for getting physical again I want to see Hebert carry about 300 pounds which he should be okay with.
RG
(6'6, 324) SO. Alex Hurst
- This is a no brainer here. The coaches obviously groomed him for this spot last year playing some significant snaps here. Everyone has to like this move as it SEVERELY beefs up our interior OL over departed Lyle Hitt. Hurst has an easy 30 pounds on Hitt. I don't see anyone pushing Hurst hard for this spot. Anyone know what has happened to Clay Spencer? Highly rated lineman out of high school has kind of disappeared from coach-talk
This looks a lot better than last year. If Barksdale does go to LT then its between Shaw and JD for RT. I think JD could be a decent tackle but like you I am anxious to see what Shaw can do. Any word on how Hagans has handled to move to OL?
Posted on 2/12/10 at 2:31 pm to thunderbird1100
id like to see barksdale stay at RT, let shaw play LT and you won't have this 'who's going to play LT' scenario again next season

Okay Mr. Lonergan, your son will eventually play, just calm down...

how do you know shaw didn't demand to play early?
some guys ask for that during their recruitment, miles honored his request and now he may regret requesting that.
not saying it's true or false but it happens.
