Why can't the smaller LA schools get it together?

With the talent in the area (gulf south included) why are winning season for I-A colleges in LA so few and far between? Shouldn't 7-5 seasons be pretty regular at least? Even though a lot of the top talent that doesn't go to LSU gets raided, there should still be enough guys to fill up some teams.

Not enough LA talent to go around to 4 DIA LA schools outside of LSU.

ULL and ULM should be DIAA but instead they constantly suck on the DIA level but take some recruits away from LA Tech and Tulane.

A lot of big schools like Michigan and A&M hit LA hard.

Kids follow the money and prestige.

It's the same reason schools like Baylor, Houston, North Texas, Texas State, Sam Houston State, Texas Tech, SMU, A&M, and UTEP struggle. Texas is a football hotbed but everyone around the country knows it, so there's LSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC, Florida coming in and offering scholarships.

Why would a kid want to play at a second rate program if they don't have to. The smaller schools don't make the money to have amazing stadiums and weight rooms, etc.

SMU

SMU has the financial backing and the location to bring the program back to the top of their conference.

In a couple of years June Jones will have the SMU program back.

A lot has to do with money, coaching, facilities, competition, everything, I believe all the other schools except Tech should be D-1AA and some should drop to D-2...Then they could be competitive and win a few titles and just be a more well run program... they can still get kids, I just know some kids dont like going to those schools and getting their asses hammered for 4 years...

Pretty much with the scholarhips limits in place now you would think a school like Louisiana-Lafayette would do much better in the Sunbelt conference.

can't really speak about Tulane ever being anything as 1A but Tech, ULM, ULL, North Texas, Arky ST.(the old Southland Conf.teams) should all be lower division and play in a conferance together.

teams I noticed with Louisiana players

Notre Dame 5* claussen

Michigan

Tennessee 5* cb from Lake Charles

USC 5* Joe McKnight

Nebraska

Kansas

Kentucky

Ole Miss

Miss State

Arkansas

Tex A & M

Therefore, until some coach can make lemonade from lemons, its not likely. Would you rather play for one of the above, in a BCS conference,
or for one of the former multi-directional AA's, ie
northeastern
southwestern USL

Sorry but La Tech should also be 1-AA...seen their facilities lately? ULM actually has a nicer football stadium. West Monroe High School has a much nicer practice facility and field house.

In the last 20 years:

Tech is 104-119 against 1A teams (5-25 against SEC)
Tulane is 76-158 against 1A teams (4-34 against SEC)
ULL is 79-140 against 1A teams (0-17 against SEC)
ULM is 50-122 against 1A teams (3-32 against SEC)

Where is Southern Miss in the mix??

Do they get a lot of LA players being that they're in Hattiesburg?
