Mike Archer wanted to recruit Texas and other states and this lead to Louisiana recruits going elsewhere and thus began the decline of LSU football all through the 1990s.

Miles' recruitment of Mike Davis and Justin Hunter over Fobbs, Reed etc.

Miles' big strength is he can recruit. We know his coaching, especially on gameday, is not spectacular. If his recruiting drops off, I think we are better off without him?

Well..he's already got verbals from 5 or 6 of the top Louisiana players for 2011. You cant keep EVERY Louisiana kid...some just want to leave home...just like Spencer Ware of Ohio said he wanted to go out of state and thank God he did.

Fobbs will never amount to anything on offense. Reed, while good, isn't someone we're dying over losing.

Miles did a good job in the state this year, so this isnt a problem.

Archer had many more shortfalls besides recruiting misdirection.

I think that kids wanted to come to LSU which made it easy for Miles to recruit. We wil see how good of a recruiter he really is in the next few years.

Texas was not the big recruiting base that it is today for LSU. And the fact that most of the good La. players were turned on by other major programs at the time did not help LSU's cause.

Definitely. Foremost among them is that he just isn't very bright. Wiley old Bill got over on LSU with that hire, saving Darth Visor for himself.

While Mike Archer had his coaching faults/weaknesses, his biggest recruiting problem was one Mr. George Washington Eames, head of the BR NAACP at the time.

For whatever reason, this nutcase decided to declare war on LSU's football program and made rampant and totally unfounded accusations of racism against Archer, his staff and the university as a whole. Archer and the university fought this virtually the entire tenure of Archer.

If memory serves me right, he was friends with Dale Brown and Bob Brodhead was AD at the time.
DB and BB were constantly at odds and BB tried to have GWE banned from any contact with the basketball team so GWE decided to show BB he wasn't going to take any crap from anybody.
This also led to the beginning of the end for DB and the downfall of the bb program. I always wondered how he could be supportive of Eames.

Eames did as much or more damage to the LSU football and athletic program than Archer ever did.

Les Miles' problems:

1. Player Developement once they get on campus.
(See QB developement on field results last 2 seasons.

2. In-game coaching

He's a good recruiter, just can't really coach them once they get here. A lot of his in-game coaching decisions, well...suck.

Certainly there is a want to improve and be more efficient in these areas. We'll see.

Archers problem was tofold! This was the beginning of the recruiting gurus and many of the so called super recruits were dudes. Secondly his predecessor hated recruiting and therfore he was not that good at it although he did bring in some simply for his namne and background

Will never blame Les for a lack of talent. Les' Miles problem is recruiting a lack of NEED and developing the talent once in house.

cant develope talent? im guessing that he didnt coach up the team that won a national championship in 07? those seniors spent 1 or 2 years with nick saban and were ready to win it the next year? probably didnt even go to les's practices huh? probably just hung out in tigerland all day for 3 years and waited to show everyone what nick taught em? give me a break.

My theory...not only did the coaching suck but most people forget that our beloved state almost elected the grandwizard of the KKK in the early 90's. If I was a 4 or 5 star black FB player I certainly would have considered other schools to play football for other than LSU. i.e. Marshall Faulk, Warrick Dunn, etc.

This.

Figure head on the sideline. Flynn didn't need coaching/babysitting...Pelini on Def...nothing needed to be done. Except he did coach us up to lose at UK, and the Arkansas game...backed into the Nat'l Championship. If you don't see it now....wow...

I don't think anyone knows what goes on in practice. #110 in the NCAA on offense....109 other teams have better talent on offense than we do?

Give me a break.

8-8 in the SEC...that's .500 Junior over the last 2 seasons. Middle of the road SEC Team. Thanks for playing.
