D coord from Catholic

Is it weird that the D Coordinator for Catholic, which is a 5A school, is leaving his post to take the same exact position for a fricking 2A school?

Would this be a step down? I understand he wants to coach with his buddy and thats fine....but going from a 5A Powerhouse to a 2A Weakling seems like a serious step down.

Does anyone know what these places pay? Money may be a factor in his desicion also...its gotta be? Are High School coaches salaries public info?

Catholic hasn't really been a powerhouse in 5A lately. Contender for sure, but not powerhouse. And U-High... well, maybe Coach Martin thinks he can help make them a powerhouse. Same with Mahaffey.

U-High probably has more money to throw at its coaches. That has to be it; U-High isn't as good, but it also has lower standards for football (and athletics in general), so it's clearly not for that reason. Catholic, AFAIK, is regarded as being a rich school because of the tuition and facilities, but it doesn't pull in much profit at all; U-High, meanwhile, charges tuition (less than CHS, but not by a lot) and gets public school funding because it's affiliated with LSU. State grants + fairly high tuition > higher tuition.

And if ya don't buy any of that, well, that's OK too. I'm speculating. Coach Martin is pretty cool, though; had him in two classes. He'll be missed.

fun note: this is the second year in a row Catholic's DCs have gone to other schools

I don't know if I would believe any stories that came from there about why he was let go. He was put in a very unfortunate situation by VC. They hired him from another school over people already on the staff at VC who wanted the job and still retained those people on the staff. That never makes for a good situation.

Martin = Peveto...Both managed to blow their careers in one year. After Martin let Central drop 50 in one half, Weiner was looking for someone to take the guy. It took a while, but he finally found a taker in UHigh. I predict Martin is selling cars by 2012.

Sid Edwards was a HC at a 4A school and left to be HC at a 1A school.

Also, if Martin has school aged kids can they go to U-High for free? If so that is a huge perk.

It's the associate head coach, the more money, the fact that uhigh has better fundraising abilities, the fact that he wants to start a program up with a good friend.

Why wouldn't you take it?

You sound like you know what you're talking about, considering the guy that called the plays for that Central team that hung 50 on that Catholic defense is the guy that got Martin to be his DC and associate head coach.

U High hit a grand slam by hiring both of these guys. The pay is better and its a public school which = great retirement. Lots of resources for U High, they made very good hires. What sucks is i gotta play them week 1

I know the families of two of the kids he was accused of grabbing. One of the fathers went to school and the Principal had a very difficult time preventing the situation from escalating. He was canned in the middle of the year.

so 2005 season he was at VC, relieved of his duties after the season and not allowed to finish his contract

2006 season he left the state, went to Aldine in Houston

2007/2008 he went to Bastrop

2009 he was at Central HS

now I am sure he has grown up and realized the errors of his former ways. But you dont get asked to leave during the school year from a small school in a small town, and then move out of state for a year for staff "politics."
