Ostrich races at halftime. Don't remember the game.
Most memorable Tulane Stadium memory was not a "Saints" one and not a good one; the 14-0 loss to Tulane.........

Dempsey kick, and drinking jax beer in those cups that the guys with the beerbackpacks would fill up for you. I was only 14 but my dad would buy me a couple, I thought I was so big

quote:Me & Dad left too...we were walking away from the stadium when it erupted, & some guy had a radio, who was jumping up & down said we just kicked a field goal to win. But my favorite Saints moment? Had quite a few, but the best may have been the first, because my first game was the Saints-Atlanta pre-season game in the 1967 season. There was some guy rooting for Atlanta all game a few rows in front of us. Well the Saints came back, & one fan in particular starting giving the Atlanta fan a hard time. Next thing you know, the Atlanta fan started fisting it out with the Saint fan with others jumping in too, including a woman with an umbrella hitting one of the guys. The police came, arrested the Saint fan, even though the Atlanta fan started the whole mess. Afterwards, The Atlanta told all us he was really a Saints fan, he just was doing it all for fun! Also, that same first season, I remember the Redskin game, Pete Gogolak had just kicked an extra point, & my dad jumped over the guys back in the row in front of us to get a 'duke' Football...
11/8/70. I was at that game. After the Lions scored late to take the lead, lots of people left

quote:Wow! I remember that!! Happended right down by our section, you could see the guy's face in shock, all black from the powder & obviously missing several fingers. After that game, they never used cannons again after a score...
uddenly, one of the cannon loaders got too close to the muzzle and the cannon fired its charge. It blew him several feet across the field and his hat went tumbling on the field.

I went to only one game in Tulane Stadium which was an end of the year trip for my 6th grade football team. We rode a bus from BR to NO and saw them play the Cardinals. I remember this fat guy in front of our team, pretty much ate every type of concession that was in the stadium. Hot dogs, chips, peanuts, beer, ice cream. Any time a hawker came by he bought something else.
It was my first pro football game so I will never forget it. Had a great time although the Saints lost.

Too young to ever have attended a game in Tulane Stadium but will be at the game tommorow. Maybe one day I can tell stories of witnessing Farve's last game and the saints first NFC championship

I was there for the 1st game in '67 with my girlfriend, she knew absolutely nothing about football but her dad got us the tickets, so I had to answer all of her dumb questions. After Gilliam ran back the opening kickoff we all went nuts and GF kept screaming it was planned.
But they had never planned for how much beer and soft drinks they needed for 80,000 people at noon, in a steel stadium, on a hot September day. All available, drinks, beer and ice was gone by halftime. We were taking beer cups into the bathroom and filling them at the sinks. They never made that mistake again.
The 1st win against the Eagles, Flea Roberts ran back a kickoff, we won 31-24.
My younger brother & I were in the north endzone right behind the goalpost when Dempsey kicked it. Our parents had just died a few months before and it was the only joyful thing that happen that year, were were 19 & 20.
Archie's 1st game, a last second win against the Rams.
I went to the Minn-KC Superbowl by myself with a ticket I bought outside the stadium for $15. By luck sat on the 50 next to Billy Kilmer, great guy who bought me beers and introduced me to his friends like we were old buddies.

I have 2. I use to sell peanuts at the games so I got to see Dempsey's kick and on the last game of 73 I think we went on the field before the game and the Green Bay crew thought we were field workers so we got to stay on the field during the game.
Also saw three Superbowls there. superbowl ix tickets were a wopping 30.00. still have it.

Lots of great trips down memory lane here... I too, remember the 1812 cannon explosion, but also remember the Ben Hur chariot races when one of the chariots lost control and crashed. My favorite part of old Tulane stadium was the steel upper deck - when the Saints were actually "in" a game and a big defensive play came around the foot-stomping on the steel deck was deafening!
Other favorite memories - the neighbor who painted their swimming pool like a Bud label - you could see it clearly from the ramps leading to the upper deck. Beer man with those crazy backback dispensers - looked like rocket men (hey, we had one of those land on the field once!)How about Danny Abramowitz running helmet-first into the TV camara on the sideline and getting knocked out? Or receivers getting stuck in the hedges in the south end zone. What a place!

I went with my dad in 1967-69 to the games. I was 10 in 1967. My most vivid memory is of watching the Eagles come out for warmups in about 1968. Our seats were near the 17 yard line where the teams came out to the field. We always watched the players come out as they were very close to us as they made their way to the field. I remember seeing Joe Scarpati of the Eagles and he was not much taller than I was but he had a day or two growth of beard on his face. It looked like he could light a match with his beard. That memory has not left me in all the passing years.
Anyone remember when Charleton Heston quarterbacked the Saints for the movie Number One. I always tell people that I was in two movies, Number One and Everybody's All American.

He'd ultimately get traded to the Saints and was the holder for Tom Dempsey's 63 yard FG.
There's your useless trivia for today.

Also have many memories of Tulane Stadium, the one that has lasted the longest is of watching Vince Lombardi lead the Redskins during the only year he coached them.

Mom and Dad took me when I was @5 or 6. Falcons I beleive. Got sick and threw up on a guy standing in line for concessions. Hit him square in the back and almost knocked him down. Projectile!

I've been trying to see this movie for years. It's not on DVD and is never shown on TV...
