Drew Brees comparison 2018 and 2019

Posted by dulargetiger on 1/3/20 at 10:10 pm
I was looking at his stats from last year and this year and if you put his 2019 stats to be the same as 2018 it comes out almost identical. Raising his passing attempts proportionally from 378 to his 2018 number of 489 it comes out like this: Attempts 2018(489) 2019(489) completions for both seasons would be 364. TD passes would come out as 32 in 2018 and 35 in 2019. Interceptions would be 5 for both seasons. Total yards would be 3992 in 2018 and 3854 in 2019. Even his sacks would be similar-17 in 2018 and 16 this year with the same amount of passing attempts as last year. I thought he was fantastic last year and it turns out he was just as brilliant this season.
I thought he was made up like Svengoolie!!
I think we got Gary Cuozzo from Baltimore and they got Bubba with the first round pick.
The Big Cat Ernie Ladd was about 6'9 and 320 pounds and Buck Buchanan was 6'7 and 286. Rookie Bubba Smith was 6'7 and 295. Atkins was next.

I don't know. I probably would have got killed today anyway with the way the games went. Don't worry Chicken. I guess I was asleep at the wheel. Thanks for your time and trouble.

I was looking every day but did not see an opportunity to pick. If the opening window was only a day then it is a possibility but I think I got put in the loser pool since I picked the Monday night game last week and my next turn never came up. It is no big deal and I will rest at 14-0.

I was still alive at 14-0 but my score was never advanced and still shows 13-0 and I never saw where I could pick for week 15 and now I see that the deadline was several days ago. I have been looking every day so I could make my pick. I guess I have been eliminated by a technical glitch.

I checked my results this morning and saw I went 17-3. I said to myself wow I ought to be near the top and then looked and saw I was #226.
I went to the 1969 LSU-Tulane game with my dad. I recall just before the game that LSU found out that they were snubbed by the Cotton Bowl thanks to Notre Dame. They voted to make the Tulane game their bowl game and beat the Wave 27-0 or something similar. The 69 run defense was something. They gave up about 34 yards per game. Texas was great with the then fairly new wishbone attack and I had been looking forward to see who would come out on top. LSU had a great chance to beat them if they played.
I think that it is unfair for LSU to have to go 2-0 vs. Oregon or Alabama to be champs but Alabama and Oregon have to only go 1-1 vs. LSU. So I say no rematch unless the perfect storm happens. Also, I believe you have to win the conference championship to even be eligible.

Looks like Tim McGraw.
I thought I said "other than the return" as I do remember that. I was trying to be helpful and truthful as I was there. I would think that only older "pops" would have better memories than a ten year old.
I was at the game. I was only ten years old and no longer have specific memories of the game other than the return and excitement of us all. I remember thinking it sure was easy to score. The Rams gradually wore down the Saints on way to an 11-1-2 season record. It has over the years been in my mind that the very first play was the TD return.

I saw Terry Robiskie in high school back in the early 1970's. He was a beast at quarterback.

re: Billy Cannon,,,

Billy Cannon was my orthodontist in my teens. I asked him about the old AFL and some players I remembered in my youth. Once I asked him about Lance Alworth. I remember Alworth running away from just about everyone when he caught a pass and he was a 9.6 sprinter in high school. Well Billy told me that Lance wasn't all that fast but he could jump like a deer and could time his leap just right to be the one to catch the ball instead of the defensive backs. So to Billy Cannon, Alworth wasn't all that fast. I would say that no way Cannon could run a 3.9 forty but he was in the 9.3-9.4 range for 100 yards definitely.

I went with my dad in 1967-69 to the games. I was 10 in 1967. My most vivid memory is of watching the Eagles come out for warmups in about 1968. Our seats were near the 17 yard line where the teams came out to the field. We always watched the players come out as they were very close to us as they made their way to the field. I remember seeing Joe Scarpati of the Eagles and he was not much taller than I was but he had a day or two growth of beard on his face. It looked like he could light a match with his beard. That memory has not left me in all the passing years.

Anyone remember when Charleton Heston quarterbacked the Saints for the movie Number One. I always tell people that I was in two movies, Number One and Everybody's All American.
Without getting into a pure statistical argument with you I watched games from the mid 1960's to today. I attended all Saints home games from 1967-69. The game I see today is no where near the same game as the game of the 1960's. Rules have been implemented to boost offensive performance because that is what sells tickets. Offensive linemen of the sixties could not extend their arms to block but had to tuck them in to their chests like chicken wings. I have watched the modern college and pro games allow mugging by the offensive lineman. Quarterbacks from the old era were hit on almost every passing play as the defensive linemen were not expected to stop in mid stride and avoid hitting him. Receivers were bumped off the line of scrimmage all the way down the field and the defensive backs could hit them without fear of penalty to break up the pass. In fact, the main role of safeties was to punish receivers going over the middle. To even try to compare the touch game of today with the rough and tumble game of the 1960's by using comparable stats is not fair to players like Hornung and Sayers. They were among the best of their time. Voters of the hall of fame saw them play. They voted them in long before they saw the players of today. If you did not see how the game was played back then you cannot possibly know why Sayers or Hornung has stats not much better than average players of today. They were stars of their time. They were judged as among the elite of their time up to that point in time. That is all one needs to know.

In 1967 I was ten years old.My dad had season tickets from 1967-69. We sat on the east side near the dressing rooms. We has seats on the 26 yard line just to the side of the entrance to the stadium. We would wait under the stadium and watch the players go out to warm up without their pads. I always watched for Doug Atkins as he was huge. My most vivid memory was of the Eagles Joe Scarpati. He was unshaven, his face looked like you could light a match on it, and he was barely taller than I was. The first game vs. the Rams was something. The Saints made the game of football look easy for about 15 seconds on that September day. Deacon Jones and the Rams put them in their place very soon however. That was a great Ram team that year. I still remember watchng them vs. the Packers when they won on a blocked punt. I was for the Packers in that game. Then in the playoffs I was for the Rams but the Packers and Travis Williams tore them up.

I had a flashback to watching Cecil the Diesel running.
I would agree, it takes time to get over a stroke and he hopefully will get better with time.
