“Our offensive line has got to play well for us to move the ball, period,” he said. “I’m not making excuses. That’s truly not what I’m doing. I recognize the record is the record and that you’ve got to score points and move the football and if you can’t run the ball, it’s not a happy day. I know all that.”

I guess it kinda makes me feel better but now I just want some kind of results.

I agree. I think there are more issues that must improve than running the ball, but the O-line and running the ball definitely have to improve.

These past few articles Miles has been really kinda forward with whats wrong with the team, and acknowledging it's weaknesses. Like you said, I hope we see some action from him. I'm gonna trust him this season, cause it's all him now. I hope he pulls through.

The lack of a running game (due to the OL play) is LSU's #1 problem by far.

Do you honestly think he's just realizing this?

I think the whole image of Les as a goober isn't entirely true. it's a front he puts forth in the media because..

well I don't know why, to tell the truth. I think he just likes fricking with them.

He knows that things are wrong and i'd even go as far to say that he knows what's wrong..but I'm not sure confident that he knows how to fix the problems.

he's probably known it all along, but hopefully he is realizing that the "just keep working to get it fixed" approach may not be enough. If he is really serious about putting every position up for grabs, as well as looking at everything they do in practice, then that is a good sign.

I honestly think he HATES the media and just tries to get done with them as fast as possible.

Not really, he did work on it a little during the season so he definitely knew it was a problem. Like a poster said before, maybe he is just being more forward now with the problems because it's not during the season any longer. That pressure is gone and now all you do is work your arse off to focus on the problem and fix it.

This is really the year that is gonna turn it one way or the other with whether or not I think that Miles is the coach to keep us in the top 5 ranking with any kind of consistency. There are really only a few coaches that you could say might possibly be able to do it.

He always says he wants to do something or he needs to do something, well you're either going to do it or you're not. Say your going to do it and when you do say you are then do it don't keep saying you would like to...
He always say "we would like our running game to be better"

He needs to say "our running game will be better"

Well, isn't like he's criticizing himself? It's his recruits. It's his coaches. He can call anything a shite sandwich, but he owns it and he's asking me to eat it.

Could there be a possibility that maybe only now it is truly sinking in?

Cognitive Dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously.

This has happened at Fortune 500 companies, governments and in many sports clubs as well. We hold on to an idea because sometimes accepting the other shatters the image we have of ourselves or is not something pleasant that we would like to contemplate on.

There is a possibility that after the 2007 Championship Miles assumed (with enough justification) that he was king and a veritable Gladstone Gander.

The 2008 season could be explained as hangover of the 2007, RP leaving, Pakistan explosions, Fidel Castro resigning etc...

The 2009 similarly could be explained with yet another defensive coordinator, yet another new QB, new players, new waterboy etc...

But at the end of the 2009 Bowl, after all the media exposure about mismanagement and bad play calling(whether perceived or real),some groups of fans wanting to bring back the guillotine and worse the Athletic Department being forced to send out "A letter from Uncle Joe" may have convinced him that of the two contradictory ideas

- Something is not right and we are screwing up on fundamentals
- Everything is ok and I can proceed as always.

One has to go and maybe he has been holding on to the wrong one.

I have witnessed Miles making mistakes in the glorious 2005-2007 run and have watched him thrash the competition too and tweak their noses as well.

I think that with the recognition of the issue there is a very high chance that we will see the Mad Hatter come through now.

P.S. I am not a Miles apologist but want LSU to win and since Miles is here (for at least the next season) - I am hoping for his success too. I would rather this discussion be about bringing out the positives to look forward to in the next season and Not yet another 1-8/8-8/Idiot thread - we have enough of those.

Les is thinking? Looks like LSU is screwed... Seriously though, this quote by Miles means one of two things. Choice A, he just realized that the o-line hasn't been playing well and spent the past year or two oblivious to the situation which is unexcusable and classifies him as an idiot. Choice B, he's known about the poor o-line play but has no answer to make it better, which classifies him as an idiot.

Hurst was impressive. They will definitely be a LOT bigger up front. It looks like the starters could average 315-330lbs.
