No other school can boast the dominance in conference and on the national scene for the ENTIRE decade. The reason I'm comparing USC to Miami is because there are some startling similarities. USC is the dominant school in a weaker conference much like Miami was as an independent then in the Big East. Secondly, For over 20 years, Miami continued to win championships on the conference and national level while reloading with high profile coaches. From Howard Schnellenberger to Jimmy Johnson, Dennis Erickson, Butch Davis to finally Larry Coker, these coaches all had very positive contributions and won championships. Carroll is the LA version of Schnellenberger, Kiffin is the next step...USC is about to begin its new decade of dominance.

You are comparing Coker to Kiffin? Did Coker coach in the NFL or have a Head Coach gig in College before the hire?

This is sarcastic, right? You're aware they're on the verge of mega sanctions, yes? And comparing a guy who hasn't done a thing at any level of coaching to Jimmy Johnson is just...

this must be sarcasm.

ETA: Miami wasn't even dominant for a century. They were really good for 25ish years. So calling Southern Cal the "21st century version" is dumb in and of itself.

Why do you insist on referring to the Pac 10 as a "weaker conference"?

When I think of weaker, I think of the BIg 10 and Big East... hell even the ACC.

Did you take the recent bowl season off or have you just purged it from your memory?

Yes I am, and during the Erickson-Davis transition UM was slapped with post season bans and many lost scholarships...however, they overcame adversity and continued to win.

Jimmy Johnson's career was nothing to shout about until he went to UM. UM made him a star, then he cemented his legacy at the Cowboys. Kiffin is young and is just getting started...but he had some serious potential. He's like the Darth Vader to Carroll's Emperor Palpatine.

Bottomline - Look for USC to win a national championship in 3 years.

Win the big games, then we'll talk. Other than USC, who else has won a BCS game in recent memory or any other notable game?

Please Enlighten me

USC's actually reminds me more of Florida State in the '90s. Terrific offense, alpha male team in a mediocre conference, lengthy run of consecutive top five finishes, etc...

Wait a minute. You called Carroll the Schnellenberger of the Southern Cal impending dynasty. Schnellenberger had to fight sanctions from the beginning and still built Miami into what it is. Not even close.

Rebuilding a terrible football program while getting spanked with violations during your tenure thanks to the previous coach is quite a feat when your main rival for in-state talent is Oklahoma.

Maybe...? Don't tell me Kiffin is the reason you feel so sure about this. If the sanctions they get involve serious scholarship losses, are you still going to make this claim?

This is definitely a good comparison that i agree with. The reason I didn't think of FSU at first is because their success all came under one iconic coach as opposed to mulitple.

Johnson was part of winning teams at almost every stage of his career.

He was a player on Arkansas' 1964 "championship" team.

He was part of Barry Switzer's staff in the early 1970s. OU won a championship like two years after Johnson left (he was part of the building process).

He was an assistant under Jackie Sherrill at Pitt when they won the championship in 1977.

He led a POS program in Oklahoma State to two bowl games in five years (in an era when there weren't as many bowls).

He goes to Miami and wins one MNC (should have been three).

He goes to the Cowboys and wins two Super Bowls.

USC 2003-2005 is strikingly similar to Miami 2000-2002 - including losing in an upset in the championship game

Of course USC was good longer afterwards
