If not For Saban......

Lsu would still be suffering through sub par coaches( archer, curly, dinardo). And fighting over getting one or two top 150 recruits. Not counting losing big time recruits to Fla St. Fla. Etc. I for one hold no resentment to the guy. Its a business he did his job well then took another job offer. No different than you and I. Im thankful he brought us back from the dead and gave us our first N.C. in "45 years".
When he left he left the team packed with talent and basically said OK your set and ready to go,but so am I. Im not saying that having him coach Bama is not a slap in the face but that was the job that came calling. ITS ALL BUSINESS GUYS. Last note ..i Would take him back in a heartbeat but it is what it is. Miles was dealt a great hand but not LSU with out choices in coaches. Thanks Joe Dean you will be remembered

not true...Bill Belichik called Saban right before he accepted the job and tried to talk him out of it. Bill was ready to come to LSU with Weiss and Romeo to build a dynasty. Saban told him to shove it.

I assume that is sarcasm as Joe Dean had nothing to do with Saban but was responsible for the fiasco of coaches before him.

good gawd I hope you are joking with this one.....more like you can thank Joe for the football in the '90s

Yes it was sarcasm. Joe set us up for failure, But it was Skip that did the nasty when he hired Miles. He settled in my opinion.

"loosing" is not a word.

I see your point, but you're only sort of accurate. I'm not going to check the exact stats, but have seen them posted here more than once-- LSU has been a traditionally good, but perhaps not quite elite football program in terms of overall wins, win percentage, etc... I think borderline top 10 all time (If I'm mistaken, feel free to let me know). So while LSU suffered at the very end of the 80s and a lot of the 90s, they have usually been one of the better SEC schools.
In my opinion, Dinardo started the upswing, then stumbled badly, but left enough pieces for Saban to come in and turn things around quickly. And Saban certainly did elevate LSU to elite status, which it hasn't been in a very long time (though some LSU teams have been good to very good over the past say 30 years).
I just think it is a stretch to say LSU would definitely be suffering through bad coaches were it not for Saban. Saban was merely the right person at the right time in a historically good program. LSU has never been a bad program for any long length of time.

Look I am thankful for what Saban did here. he put LSU on the right path and got everyone going in the right direction. But to say LSU would still be suffering without him is a guess at best.

Really, you think Mark Emmert hiring Saban was like a blind squirrel finding a nut? Do you even know the other coaches they were looking at then?

You have no clue what you are talking about DiNardo recruited pretty well, not at Saban level of course but singed a helluva lot more that 2 top 150 players.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Nobody hates Saban. He just tried to steal everything at LSU when he setup the Saban Dynasty at Alabama. He tried to steal the secretaries and the other personnel in the football program. You can't respect him for that
reason. Do the ends justify the means.
