Many banks are requiring this for people who don't have an account with them. Do you have an account at Regions?

the absolute ONLY scenario I can come up with is if the check was stolen ? but still, images of EVERY single check written are scanned and sent to the FED, every day ...now they have my fingerprint again

I don't think Regions finger prints someone who has an account with them. That's the point.

This has nothing to do with getting identification of someone the bank does not know.

Yeah IDK I've never even tried cashing a check somewhere other than my own bank.

How many of you have been charged by any bank for cashing a check at the bank upon which the check was drawn?

well, yea, why would they ?

point is, its a regions check ...they will know if it's going to bounce or not ...typically, banks just give you the cash ...they could care less who the peson is

So if I steal a check and cash it, that's not the bank's problem? Wrong.

Still wrong....

I think its fairly routine for all banks where you do not have an account. I know its happened to me several times, namely Whitney and Regions.

never happened to me at chase or cap 1

If Regions' identification process is too onerous for you, I suggest that you not accept a Regions check in the future. Or, open an account there.

for the sake of arguing, since thats all you seem to like to do now, why exacly is it ? (I just don't know how that scenario would play out, enlighten me )....they would obvioulsy only cash a certain amount and only up to amount available ...seems like that would fall on the individual ?

go to Regions or Trustmark in Jackson and they do it.

Doesn't bother me. Where I get mad is where they start charging fees.

Where am I arguing? You asked a question in the OP and I answered it. You asked follow up questions and I answered those as well. How do you consider that arguing?

No, the bank is responsible for obtaining identification of the person cashing a check. If they fail to do it and later the owner of the account files a claim against the bank because the check was stolen or altered, the bank has no defense and must credit the funds back to the account holder and the bank can't track down who cashed the check since they didn't get ID.

I suppose this answer is "arguing" also.....

Its pretty common for cashing or even depositing any check over 500.
