Is Les Miles good enough for LSU?

No matter what your opinion on Miles is in regards to his coaching ability, two things that he does at worst above average to great is recruiting and the hiring of coaching. These are the two things that coaches previous to Saban were failures on. He is keeping enough in state talent and surrounding state talent to keep this program in a competitive state. As well, he hires good enough coaches to recruit and fill the areas he is less than steller. I believe this is what will make Miles better than archer, hallman, and dinardo. Which is why i agree in the similarities between miles and mack brown. They are neither great x and o's coaches just good program mgrs. Brown just probably has more resources at his disposal. LSU will probably be in the true national champ running every 3-5 yrs.
The main question is - what do LSU fans and admin want in a coach?
I am torn with the question because of the risk of actually finding someone better. After the ole piss game I wanted him fired on the spot but after calming down...I have decided to give him a second chance (do i have anyother choice?) and basically next year will be make or break for Miles. After last years debacle he did well enough this year to have optimism for next year but with a lot of "ifs". I believe he is at least an above average coach but a part of me feels we deserve better and can do better than Les Miles especially for the amt of cash we are paying him as citizens of LA and season ticket holders.
So the questions remain...(1)is Les Miles good enough for LSU, (2)can LSU do better, (3) is it worth the risk?

Look at the kids we've got commitments from the past week. He is good enough for LSU. Our two new coaches are great additions, and Chavis will have our D rolling.

I actually think that remains to be seen.
I don't think just saying "well he won a national championship" ends the debate.
We could list several coaches who've won national championships but would not even be in a discussion of the best college coaches...Danny Ford, the guy at Michigan, Phat Phil, Coker and others.
But neither do I think we can say decisively that the last two years are defining either.
I think we find out in the next year are two. The early commitments for 2011 seemed to have energized us to some extent and given hope.
I'd rather Les prove he is good enough...I just honestly don't think we can say either way right now.

The main problem that I have with Miles is that he can't or don't make good adjustments during a game. And yes LSU can do better than MIles. But he is alot better than Archer and the other coaches that you mentioned. Mike Archer flat out sucked.

yes, he is good enough, and LSU could do better...the question is "would" LSU do better. At this point in time it would be a big crapshoot and we could easily end up with the next Bill Callahan. With that said, Les must be able to do an honest evaluation of his mis-steps over the past 2 years and do whatever it takes to ensure they don't happen again. IMO, keeping Crowton would be a big mistake.

Les Miles is a good person, a great recruiter, and a loyal friend.
He is a poor administrator, inarticulate public spokesman,a poor D-1 game coach and, overall, as a head coach, in mid/ lower tier of the SEC.
Whether, in time, his coaching deficiencies affect his ability to recruit great athletes, is yet to be seen, but as of now, the HS stars still come come.

LSU is in a malaise. It's like the malaise days of Jimmy Carter.

Fail. Malveto, Stud, Chavis (next year will tell that tale).

Miles might be a good coach but he doesn't do much with the talent he has. And his recruiting acumen is going to be sorely tested the next few years.

Is that why we just got 2011 commitments from three of the best players in America?

Good God, not this shite again

The answer is a resounding NO! He is a nice guy, and hires guys who recruit well, but thats not enough at 4 plus million a year. The NC was misleading because he lost 2 games that year and should have lost 4 or 5, the clock mismanagement in the Auburn game was inexcusable. Les Miles has been living with a horseshoe stuck in his arse and it has worked out for him,but the luck ran out in Oxford and nothing short of a National Championship will save his job next season.

The survey, if that's what it is, is a year too early. LSU is going to keep Miles through the 2010 season even if Joe Pa mops the floor with us. If we don't win the West next year, I think Aleva & Co. will be forced to start looking for a new coach. By this time next year if we find ourselves in the same position we are now, the fan base will be united and in open revolt.

We could have worse, but deserve better.Miles is a good man , but we need a good coach and one that can fire this team up for games.Teach them how to become great players and win games

It's not losing, its how we lose and win. If they play great and don't make the same mistakes, put the ball in the playmakers hands, and esentially put the team in the best position to win.
Then yes he is good enough for lsu. And that will be enough for me to keep him around.
a NC takes alot of luck and just "playing great" is just one of the requirments.

It takes a lot of luck for anyone whether good or great to win an NC inCollege football.
The only luck that LSU had in 2007 was the Pitt W. Virginia game and Mizzu and Kansas game went LSU's way for them to be able to play in the NC game. LSU should not have had to count on that luck if they would have won either Kentucky or Arkansas game or both then it would not have made any difference. But even Bama and Texas had their luck this year if you say LSU was lucky then Bama and Texas where lucky also. It can not go just one way it goes both ways, that is why it takes a lot of luck not just great skill and talent to win a NC or the Super Bowl in the Pro's as for as that goeas also. JMHO!
Les is good enough for LSU, all he has to do is win the NC next year and all this crap will go away.
