for the Capital One Bowl.

Penn State is leaving for Orlando on Dec. 20th. JoePa said this was a great reward bowl and is going to give his players time to have some fun at the parks. Living out of a hotel for 2 full weeks might wear on them some. I have never heard of a team spending 2 weeks at a bowl site.

LSU is leaving for Orlando on the morning of Dec. 26th. The players will have two days off for christmas on the 24th and 25th and will then leave for the bowl.

What does everyone think about the different approach to the travel schedules? LSU will let their players spend Christmas with family before spending a week in Orlando. PSU will be spending 2 weeks in Orlando including Christmas before the game is played.

...IMO, Bowl preparation and planning is a balance.

I see some teams that that do not take bowls seriously and they are unfocused. They are usually beaten.

On the other hand, I have seen some teams practice long and hard. These teams are physically and mentally exhausted. Further, you can get to the point that you over prepare your team.

I think one week in Orlando is all you need. I also don't think you need to be away from family on Christmas.

One week as LSU has done and is doing gives the team time to enjoy but, also adequate time to acclimate themselves to playing a football game.

Les Miles is undefeated in bowls....usually in dominating fashion so I'll go out on a limb and say he knows what he's doing. I wouldn't want to live out of a hotel for two weeks no matter where the hell I was.

LSU is not gonna pony up money for an extra two week stay. They would have to tack on a bowl vacation fee on top of tickets.

This. If JoePa and his team want to spend two weeks in Orlando, they're probably more concerned with Disney World and finding some warm weather than they are winning a bowl game.

Nearly two weeks away from home is very hard for some people. I dont think I would enjoy a hotel room for that amount of time. Being away from home for Christmas may be difficult for some of these kids. I think PSU is asking for trouble.
I think LSU has the winning approach. Balance work and play.

Not at all. I support our coaches. I think spending two weeks in a hotel before a game is crazy.

most northerners love florida. it's damn cold in pa. and they are taking advantage and getting where it's warm. i'll bet many of the players family's will be making the trip and will be spending christmas with their son in orlando. both LSU ans PSU have damn good bowl records. if i'm miles, i'm not changing a thing from the way i prepared for the last 4 bowls. it worked; don't mess with it. jopa can afford a loss more than miles.

You don't say JoePa doesn't care about winning the Capital One Bowl, he wants some time in the sun and maybe a couple days with his grandkids at Disney World.

Penn St. may have 5 kids arrested leaving them down there for 2 weeks. I am not for this. I like that LSU is treating this a little more as a business trip at least. Sure, let them go to Disney World, but this ain't supposed to be a 2-week paid vacation (the players get travel money each day they are gone).
