My brother-in-law loves bourbon. He is a good man. I want to get him some rare bourbon, some good stuff, for Christmas. He loves Maker's Mark, but I want to get him something he's probably never had before. Any pointers?

I'll second the Blanton's Original. My personal favorite.

Pappy Van Winkle would be one that he might not have had. Black Maple Hill is another that might be easier to find. If you want to try something different and local, Sazerac sometimes has a limited edition rye whisky.

Looking to spend under $50 ?

Blanton's........................ Sub $50.
I don't like 1792.
I've heard that Basil is good but have not had it yet. Maybe next purchase.

I do like giving Bookers.. It generally comes in a nice crate. Its generally 45-50 dollars.

1792 is kinda strange. The taste varies every time I open the bottle it seems.

I've had a bottle for about 6 months now. Usually bourbon doesn't last that long around here. The only way I can really drink the stuff is with Coke and that's just not my thing.

He loves Maker's Mark,
1. How long has he been drinking it exclusively?
2. Does he drink any other type bourbon?
You might be making a mistake to buy another brand even if it's better because his taste may be set on MM.

Buffalo Trace is another good Makers-esk bourbon.

Probably the best bourbon I've had in a long time.
