Vegas odds makers know more than you about football and if you don't believe it you are insane.

The Big 10 always shows up for the Capital One Bowl.

Yeah since they are the business of predicting winners.........LV rankings have Penn State power ranking at a mere 110.3 1 point ahead of our 109.3 so there is your 2.5 points......
Take into the fact that they have no idea if Charles Scott will play and that seems like the likely spread to get bets on each side........We were also not favored against OSU, OU, GT, and we saw how those bowl games panned out.......

I'm so sick of this argument.
THE SPREAD IS SET TO ENCOURAGE AS MUCH BETTING AS POSSIBLE, NOT TO PREDICT THE OUTCOME!!!!!!!!

I don't know about that. Looking at PSU's defensive stats and our stats on offense ... well, I think I'd favor them too. No matter, it should be a close game—a 2.5-point spread is about right.

LSU sucks balls in day games. It's far from insane to have Penn State who plays pretty much all of their games at the same time as the Cap 1 kickoff as the favorites.

What was the line on the SEC championship game again?

there is a betting system that does very well in bowl games every year, wins over 65% of the time i believe. LSU qualifies for the system over Penn State this year.
I'll try to find a link, but is is based on strength of schedule
quote:
Of the top 60 Sagarin-rated teams, FADE EVERY team ATS whose strength of schedule rating is 60 or worse unless they are facing a team whose SOS rating is even lower than theirs (remember this is by ranking ... not actual %)
2007: 11-1
2008: 12-5
(23-6 79%)
here's what applies
TCU (4, 84 SOS) over Boise State (8, 98 SOS)
Florida (2, 27 SOS) over Cincinnati (6, 63 SOS)
LSU (10, 16 SOS) over Penn State (20, 83 SOS)
Oregon State (15, 21 SOS) over BYU (29, 77 SOS)
California (33, 17 SOS) over Utah (35, 73 SOS)
Miami-FL (11, 18) over Wisconsin (36, 68 SOS)
Troy (69, 106 SOS) over Central Michigan (38, 111 SOS)
Air Force (55, 92 SOS) over Houston (46, 97 SOS)
Arkansas (16, 13 SOS) over East Carolina (50, 61 SOS)
South Florida (51, 62 SOS) over Northern Illinois (87, 121 SOS)
Central Florida (61, 85 SOS) over Rutgers (52, 100 SOS)
Wyoming (99, 57 SOS) over Fresno State (57, 74 SOS)
Missouri (47, 50 SOS) over Navy (54, 74 SOS)
Nevada (56, 82 SOS) over SMU (88, 90 SOS)
its won 65% over the last 5 years

Not really. The point spread it meant to attract the same amount of money to be bet on each team. The spread changes as the game approaches to accomplish that as closely as possible. Vegas just wants the vig.
