Dan Wetzel has an excellent playoff proposal that would actually work this year. It doesn't seem like college presidents are going to bite on the idea, however I think big name bowl sponsors have sometime to do with it. Check out the playoff bracket.

Too many games.

Let the Fiesta Bowl winner play the BCS winner. Or put Texas and Alabama in the Rose Bowl, winner plays the Fiesta winner in the BCS game.

I like the sixteen team playoff but, you have to give an automatic bid to the little div 1 conferences or they will not be able to recruit AT ALL.

It's a great plan, and NO 16-17 games in NOT too many.

Wanna see a playoff? Then fans need to quit attending meaningless bowl games. If it ain't for the National Championship then stay your arse home.... hit them in the pocket book and they'll be forced to make a move.

They could even cut the regular season games back down to 11 games and play 4 more in a playoff. This could become reality....see all other divisions in college football.

I like it....its fair, and it makes sense. So it will never happen!

FWIW....I've been preaching a 16 team playoff with all conf champs and a few at larges! Don't understand why D1 won't come around. Hell reduce it to 8 like D2 does. Its a start.

I'm all for a playoff; more college football between good teams to watch. The one thing that keeps nagging at me is that in basketball which has a playoff, I can't remember the last time a "cinderella" team even made the final four, let alone won the championship,.Would better memories help me out?

and possibly 3 extra home games for 2, semi-finalists

do people realize how much of a financial advantage this would give some teams?

I like inviting the 11 conference champions, but I think 5 at-large teams is too much and waters down the regular season some. I propose just one at-large.

(9) Georgia Tech @ (8) Ohio State, winner plays @ (1) Alabama
(12) Troy @ (5) Florida (at-large), winner plays @ (4) TCU
(11) East Carolina @ (6) Boise State, winner plays @ (3) Cincinnati
(10) Central Michigan @ (7) Oregon, winner plays @ (2) Texas

Whether 8 or 16, I've always thought the higher seed should get home games until the championship. Most people want EVERY playoff game to be a neutral site game (played at bowl locations). Giving home-field advantage gives more incentive to winning in the regular season, IMO.

allowing in the CUSA and Sunbelt champs and having 1 at large is just retarded to me

you can't tell me the 2nd best teams in the pac10, SEC, or hell big12/big10/big east wouldn't win those conferences

Having 3 undefeated teams get no shot is retarded to me. I'm not saying the 2nd best team in any conference wouldn't win the Sun Belt.
