Yeah...he sure got outcoached in 2003 in Tiger stadium when he rolled in here with a freshman QB and basically ate our lunch by simply throwing the ball to a RB 15 yards down the middle of the field over and over again...

ummm no, zook never won a nc and i don't think he ever won more than 8 games. florida was loaded when he arrived.

quote:There was a little bit of 'luck' in getting there both times. That is not an argument against Miles, however. The arguments against him have nothing to do with whether we got lucky to play for a NC or not. They revolve around poor game management, poor asst. coach selection, poor player development, poor discipline on the football field, and extremely poor public persona.
Yet the Sabanistas don't see how there was any "luck" in that one.
I can think of at least 5 different reasons as to why Miles is a bad head coach, and none of them have anything to do with our NC.

For LSU and the great Saban to get into the NC in 2003, it came down to Hawaii winning by a certain amount of points late that Saturday night....no fluke there I guess

Yes going from 3-5 to 5-3 is a decline... oh wait, no it's not.

Oh yeah 5-3 with not a single win over a ranked team and not one convincing win, not even against ULL and Tech, yeah things are looking up, we could easily have 4 more losses

31-3 is pretty convincing, so was 42-0 vs Tulane and so was 31-10 vs Auburn.
Good try though.

We could just as easily have 2 more wins. What's your point?

Zook also went 8-5,8-5 and 7-4. The OP is a moron.
Not that I agree entirely with this analogy, but...the SEC East was a lot better in those year than it has been lately. LSU and Auburn were also getting pretty strong during that time. Just saying, the SEC as of late isn't as tough top to bottom with UT and UGA being so mediocre.

exactly, why do so called LSU fans diminish our own NC just to blast our coach.

well, Zook did beat saban when saban won the national championship.

thats bull shite. zook couldn't wear miles socks. miles has won 51 games in 5 yrs at LSU; how many did Zook win? don't give me that lame crap about miles following saban either; it won't hold up and is ridiculous. besides, Zook followed spurier. your hate for miles is causing you to make stupid analogies. yes, you are the one that looks stupid, not miles.

in some ways, i see miles more like phil fulmer. up and down. some great, some bad. seems to let his coordinators coach like fulmer did with cutcliff and chavis. the obvious difference being miles' players seem to have less trouble with the law.

Miles and Zook is a weak comparison. If Miles is like any other coach in college football, it would be Mack Brown, and I've said that for the last 2-3 years.
Both:
1. Are nice, approachable men and are seen as "good guys" in the coaching profession.
2. Are strong recruiters
3. Are considered to be "player's coaches"
4. Are Conference and National Championship winners
5. Are prone to being outcoached at any time by a good coaching staff, and will usually be outcoached by a great coach.
6. Heavily depend on their staff to tip the balance in their favor because they aren't necessarily capable of doing it.
7. Even more heavily depend on their ability to recruit to do the same.
8. Have tried the Co-Coordinator experiment, only to see it fail.
9. Have had more than one season where their team was seen as underachieving.
10. Are often seen by their fanbases as "too conservative."
11. Have made player (especially QB) decisions that have been sharply criticised.
12. Have a fluctuating group of fans that are sharply critical of them. Brown's is low right now and Miles's high, but it was much the opposite 2-3 years ago.
13. Are capable of running a championship winning program if recruiting and the staff are just right.
14. Are capable of badly underachieving any time they aren't.
15. Have had discipline and execution issues on several of their teams.
Apples to apples, I do think Brown is smarter, and a little better than Miles, but he is also a lot more passive, especially in recruiting, which hurts him. IMHO there are too many parallels to deny here.

I don't think that is far off, either.
