Not much. Will take a win of the SEC west at least.

Why would he?

Is JoePa considered an elite coach right now?

The problem is that there are a group of fans that will never be satisfied with Miles. Miles' style and public speaking are unlikely to change, so there will always be a group of people that don't like him.

If we were 12-0 like Alabama and Florida, having won like they did, there would still be people bitching. Take the Bama vs. UT game or the UF vs. MSU game as examples. These would be ammunition for the bitching.

There would be a lot less with that record, but until LSU dominates every game, there will be an anti-Miles crowd because of the way he is.

IF we play PSU AND we win -- LSU gets respect.

If Miles > Joe Pa - based on his team winning - we are VERY lucky to have him.

Also - that would mean Miles has done what only 2 other coaches have been able to do this season and beat PSU/Joe Pa.

Those 2 - Kirk Ferentz and Jim Tressle --- I'd say Miles is in pretty good company if he's in with those guys, wouldn't you?

And - head to head Miles has beaten Tressle, less we forget.

Lil Nicky crapped out again Ferentz in the Cap One - less we forget that too.

No, Its gonna take more than that to erase that Ole Miss brain fart he had.

No. He doesn't deserve respect unless he does something worth respecting, and turning a top 5 program into a top 15-25 program is not in that category. Even in the ridiculously unlikely event that he did somehow restore the program to prominence, it's hard to respect someone after something as bad as the Ole Miss debacle. Some blunders are just so bad you never live them down. That game, more than any other of his career, will be his legacy.

First off, I truly believe that because of the Ole Miss debacle, a small number of fans (not me) will never again give Miles the respect he deserves no matter what he accomplishes from now on. Maybe, just maybe another National Title would change their minds but anything less, and that includes a SEC Title, would not be 100% acceptable because they believe LSU could still do better. Not only is that a shame, but it's also a pretty sad and pathetic mindset to have IMO.

Anyway, back to your question though. No, winning over JoPa most likely won't change anyone's mind about Miles. We already know what he's capable of when he has plenty of time to prepare. However if we were to lose, the anti-Miles bitching will be out in full force once again for a couple weeks because a 4-1 bowl record, as if we didn't know already, won't cut it and this latest loss is clearly an indication he's lost his touch and the program is in a downfall etc.

If in your job, you did a better job than one of your peers who is 80 years old and senile, would you get much respect?

Sitting in the pressbox watching the game does not equate to coaching in it. Simply attending practice while your assistants run it also doesn't equate to coaching. JoePa hasn't coached at Penn State in a long time.

I've seen what Miles can do in bowl games.

He's proven that.

His teams give effort -- and the bowl game is usually their best game of the season. He really excels in that game. He certainly enjoys that part of the season. I have to say that I felt LSU outcoached Ohio State in 2007.

But there are 12 games on the schedule.

How bout taking care of Saban, Meyer and Nutt for starters.

"Les beat an 80+ year old coach. He ought to be ashamed of himself". I can hear it now.

Answer---- Les Miles will never enter the respect promise land. Regardless of how well his teams play. Very sad.

Your wife screws around on you two weeks ago on national Tv no less. Embarrasses the hell out of you and your family.

In a month she give you something you expect. Maybe even something you don't expect.

That makes it all ok?

Beating Arkansas and beating Penn State, I think he would at the time. I mean it is just one game he made a mistake in.

Respect? Yes!

Does it mean he is a great HC? No.

Does it mean or show that he will be able to best Saban here forth in the SEC West? No.

Just means that he is a very solid Top 20 HC, that with plenty of prep time, and if getting to face inferior northern squads, utilizes the edges at his disposal..and led LSU to wins over ND, OSU, and PSU.

Look, if the guy can't get motivated enough to beat the guy he replaced, he will not get respect. And that guy does not have greater talent.
