Now that the decade is just about over for LSU Football, where do the Tigers rank in the Best Teams of the Decade ranking?

If you were going to come up with the top teams, I think the only teams that enter the discussion are the following (not in any particular order):

Southern Cal
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
LSU
Ohio State

It is really hard to rank anyone right now since two of the teams above have a chance to win the title this year. I think No. 1 goes to Texas if they win the BCS title. Otherwise, Florida should get the nod if they can get to the title game and win. If both Texas and Florida make it to the BCS title game, I think both would have a legitimate claim to the top two spots for best team of the decade. After that, it could be a toss up...consider these facts:

BCS Title Game Records:
Florida: 2-0
LSU: 2-0
Oklahoma: 1-3
Ohio State: 1-2
USC: 1-1
Texas: 1-0

Note: USC won AP title in 2003.

Overall Record this decade:
1. Texas: 109-18 (.858)
2. Oklahoma: 109-24 (.820)
3. Ohio State: 101-25 (.802)
3. USC: 101-25 (.802)
5. Florida: 99-29 (.773)
6. LSU: 99-30 (.767)

Overall Bowl Record this decade:
1. LSU: 7-2
2. Texas: 7-2
3. USC: 6-2
4. Florida: 4-5
5. Ohio State: 4-5
6. Oklahoma: 4-5

BCS Bowl Record this decade (ordered by number of wins):
1. USC: 6-1
2. LSU: 4-0
3. Texas: 3-0
4. Florida: 3-1
5. Ohio State: 3-3
6. Oklahoma: 2-5

If you had to rank these six teams, how would you rank them?

Top 5. UF #1, 2-5 arguement is what makes college football great, but LSU definitely in that arguement.

Oklahoma must be penalized for its failure in big games

Ohio State obviously just sucks so theyre an easy choice for last among those six teams

After this, it starts getting tricky. In my opinion BCS titles talk more than anything else so:

1) Florida
2) LSU
3) Texas
4) USC
5) Oklahoma
6) Ohio State

Fla gets the edge over LSU because of its better overall record

Same with Texas over USC

1. USC- AMAZING 7 straight conference titles and 33 game win streak to go with a great bowl record.

2a. Florida- 2 NCs, 3 SEC titles (with a chance to add another of each)

2b. LSU- 2 NCs, 3 SEC titles, great bowl record

4. Oklahoma- 1 NC, Bowl record hurts, but FOUR NCG appearances is an amazing accomplishment, and 7 BCS bowls, owned Texas for more than half the decade

5. Texas- 1 NC, 1 Big 12 title (chance to add another), very very consistent program

6. Ohio State- 1 title, 3 appearances, disappointing bowl losses

You could argue that USC was a fraud all along as they generally played only Big Ten teams in their BCS games.

I think they rank down there with Ohio State.

LSU's rank is dropping as we speak. 8-4 9-3 are not good enough seasons anymore. The bar has been raised here.

Then drop OKLA and USC as well by this standard. UF had 4 losses with Tebow and before he got there weren't great by any means. But body of work put them in the discussion

I think as of now LSU and Florida are the top 2 teams because crystal balls are the most important thing. With LSU having the edge right now due to Florida's sub par bowl record. But if Florida even wins the SEC they jump LSU. So in my opinion LSU holds the top spot for now with...

Florida
Oklahoma (6 of 10 against Texas this decade with 6 Big 12 Championships to Texas' 2, same number of crystal balls)

Texas
USC
Ohio State
