Weird.

More details are emerging about the situation surrounding his removal.
But perhaps the most puzzling aspect of this whole deal is Arizona State's treatment of its student-athletes.

ASU is a great place for baseball. My dad and I went out there a few years back for a weekend series between ASU & LSU. it was in March or April while MLB Spring Training was going on.
A lot of ex-players from both programs were in attendance. That weekend they named their field after their former coach, Bobby Winkles. That was the reason all of the former players were there.
this is the only thing I found on his resignation:
sounds like he wanted them to negotiate a new contract immediately and AD Love would not do it.

After taking the Sun Devils to a third College World Series in five years last season, Murphy lobbied for a contract extension that Love would not negotiate until the NCAA investigation was completed.
About the timing of the resignation, said Love said: "It's been a long, hard couple of years and an arduous process. Pat is where he is, and we're where we are. It's an amicable parting dictated by Pat.

Being a Pompous Dickhead finally caught up to him. He resigned, but he will regret it if it was his choice.

this is really weird
My guess is that the Admin told him No New ink on a contract until we are sure the program is clean. He got arrogent, and probably threatened to leave. They didn't bite....and you know the rest.
If he was clean, he'd have waited. He would have been paid. Something is up.

I don't think it was his choice. Wasn't he escorted out of the facilities by the cops?
