In a combat situation, the Commander gets no second chance.

When a Commander screws up and causes a loss in a combat situation, there are no second chances.
The Commander is RELIEVED FROM HIS COMMAND and replaced without getting a second chance.
Hell, everybody in the Army and Marine Corps knows that, even in a peaceful stateside garrison, any brand new Lieutenant who gets a DWI in town can kiss his career good-bye. The Shavetail gets a written Reprimand signed by the General placed permanently in the personnel file, which guarantees NO promotion and discharge . . . CAREER OVER after one little mistake.
I guess things are a little different for the big boys coaching college football making 4 million a year !

Yes. Civilian life is the life...

Just a football game. Doesn't compare to what our service men and women do.

Of all the analogies or reasoning for having Miles fired, this may be the worst.

I know a little about warfare and a little about football, and, in my opinion, it's a good analogy.

"Yeah, I don't give a hell. It's about this U, man. I don't give a flyin' you-know-what about a Vol. I don't give a damn! He would do the same thing to me. It's war. They don't give a freakin' you-know-what about you. They will kill you. They're out there to kill you. So I'm 'a kill 'em. You write that in the paper. You write that. You make money off that. No, man, I'm pissed. All y'all take this down. I'm pissed, man. We don't care about nobody except this U. We don't. If I didn't hurt him, he'd hurt me. They were gunnin' for my legs. I'm a come right back at 'em. I'm a frickin' soldier!"

Then you should know that the two aren't close to being comparable.

Dude, did you complete your Combat Operational Stress Control?

Football vs. war?
The number of people that risk their lives playing football is close to zero (see Ryan Clark). That is not the case for the military. Bad, bad analogy.

Just don't give Miles the keys to an M1A2 Abrams and we'll all be safe.

Then you don't know your arse from a hole in the ground.

It's called "Holding the Commander Accountable for what Happens on the Battlefield."
OK, forget the battlefield analogy. What about the 20 year old Lieutenant whose gets kicked out of the service for ONE DWI? That happens all the time.
Why are you civilians so unwilling to hold people accountable for their frick-ups? All you are doing is encouraging the "frick-ups" to keep fricking up !

quote:Not in mine. Families lose loved ones in war, you don't expect that to happen in football- though very seldom it does. Still, the two shouldn't be discussed in any REAL comparisons imo.

he would strive to win but crowton would use the british plan in the american revolution. Where they all line up in a line in the open.

Miles didn't commit a crime. It was devastating to the LSU program, but not against the law. If your analogy were applicable to coaching college football, then Saban would have been fired after losing to UAB.
ETA: I don't want Miles here either, but this is just a stupid way to justify getting rid of him.
