From the press conference, “I’d be the first one to tell you that I would like to think that I had called timeout before that. I can’t imagine that I did not. I can’t tell you that I did, and that’s my issue. My issue is that mentally certainly I thought that the timeout was called. The timeout is called and that I was into the next play, what we need to do, what’s going on, and that’s my mistake. I understand.”

Maybe Miles does have a mental deficiency.

Wow, that's a total and complete clusterf**k of words. That's the worst I've heard from Miles so far. Wow, just WOW!

I didn't see him signaling, but he sure as hell got the one called previously before the play clock expired.

I recall seeing Derek Dooley calling for a timeout in our game against Tech and their game against Boise State where the refs did not call it. Dooley literally ran on the field with his hands calling for a time out. The clock kept ticking away and he finally got the refs attention.

That is how it is done.

Had Miles done this, then he would have an excuse. Then he could say he tried but the refs didn't call it.

He didn't do this. He has no excuse.

He very well might? Perhaps you do too...or maybe you're just being short-sighted in your inability to use the SEARCH function and just start a whole 'nother thread instead.

Miles is the first mentally handicapped person to be a coach isn't he?

Shouldn't there be at least 1 designated person to have the sole job of calling a timeout in those circumstances? How hard is that?

See...here's the issue with that late TO.

anyone who has ever played or coached any level of organized sports knows that during the PREVIOUS TO, part of what the coach/coaches are going to tell players right before going back into play is what they expect of them. In this case, it's crimial that apparantly NO ONE saw fit to tell the offense that, "If this play doesn't result in a first down or get out of bounds to stop the clock, we need everyone to call a TO! Got it?!?"

Given that not ONE PLAYER threw up their hands to call a TO when the play was stopped for a loss in bounds, it's clear that no one on the sidelines told them to call one if that happened.

That's inexcusable...even in junior high football.

Yes, it's called the head coach.

I found a new sig from the luncheon....

"...that's a part of the strategy that I'm talking about. THE CALLS WE MAKE THERE COME WITH A CODE THAT SAYS WE ARE IN POSITION TO WIN THIS GAME. Travel smartly, make great decisions."

WTF

maybe JJ didn't bring his decoder into the huddle with him on that last drive?? This is nonsense.

I'm not disagreeing with the content of the post. You know that, but decided to ignore it. My point is that there have been other threads begun before this one that are topical to what you posted. Use one of them instead of littering the board with another repeat thread.

OK, Les fricked up here and admitted it...

...but why is The OC/Crowton or other coaches NOT talking to Les; ....

....and screaming to refs for TO (eg jumping up and down, running to refs signaling TO )...??

That would be the winning answer. The fact that none of the players called a timeout showed me that Miles didn't have the wherewithall to instruct that this be done during the previous TO.
It's just par for the course with regards to Miles game management skills.

The fact that Miles manned up about the end of the game is nice, but what did people really think he would say. There was nothing else he could say. He screwed up, AGAIN, but this time it was out there for the world to see.
But, as he said "He'll fix it". Problem is we've had clock mismanagement for much of his tenure and it hasn't been fixed yet.

Not to take the blame away from Miles, but isnt crowton is his ear the whole came. Maybe just maybe sitting up in the box he might have noticed the clock was running and tell him to call a freaking time out!!!

"My issue is that mentally certainly I thought that the timeout was called."

Maybe this has been posted, but it just jumnped out at me when I read about the press conference. I find that statement shocking to say the least.
