Think he would be a great coach but he is a NFL guy. Would bolt for the right job.

They see hes a NFL guy, won a Superbowl and hes automatically a big candidate.

Sorry to say, some NFL guys don't work out in College ball and vice versa. Gruden doesn't seem like he'd work out very well. His scheme is very complex and hes incredibly hard to work with on the offensive side...

You're expected to learn his scheme and FAST. He doesn't strike me as a guy who would want to recruit a lot too. His personality is the polar opposite of what you want on a college team with a bunch of kids. Gruden wants development fast...hes not going to get that in college. I doubt he'd even consider college ball anyway.

Players develop rapidly in college. Especially with a coach who demands it.

This, though as I said before he'll either get another NFL job or keep commentating though.

This is not it for me. I like the fact that he's a QB guy. He expects the best out of himself every single day (read an article that was linked in another Gruden thread) and thus the same of his players.

More than that though I think my fascination with the possibility stems back to an "inside the huddle" type thing about the Senior Bowl when he coached there a few years back. The guy is a great leader, commands instant respect, is a master motivator, and knows how to get what he wants out of players. I think player development is something intriguing to coaches.

Also to those who say he will never consider college. From what I've read he may be somewhat disenchanted with the NFL and it's win a super bowl in 3 years or you're gone attitude. Things ended badly in Tampa.

All I know is the guy loves football, and I'd love for him to coach at LSU.

He prefers a pro-style offense.
He has been successful at the highest level.
He took a subpar talented team to the Super Bowl in 2002.
He has NFL experience already.
He handles the media well.
He has always come off as a genuine person.
He's young enough to have the energy to rebuild the LSU program and still have time to stay around and run it. Yet he is not too young to be inexperienced.

IMO... He would be a better coach in EVERY facet over guys like Kiffin, Harbaugh, Kelley... etc

All of this plus he would instill discipline in an LSU program that sorely needs it. Plus we get to pimp Chucky dolls every Saturday.

As much as I'd like to see it, Gruden likes the spotlight too much. He isn't going to Baton Rouge to coach. USC, or some bigtime market, but not Baton Rouge. Plus, there isn't enough pussy for him here. Once he hit campus, all the frat boys wouldn't have anything left to hit.

It sure is, I had the worst year of my career with him in 2002.

Signed,

Man, I totally disagree with that statement.

The guy is very personable and would be a very good recruiter IMO.

Certainly Gruden would need to alter his scheme to fit college football. I don't see that as a big deal at all.

Of all the NFL guys, I like Gruden the best.

Del Rio can go somewhere else if he gets canned. I don't like him what so ever.

But, considering he recently signed a multi-million dollar contract with epsn EDIT: the discussion of him departing ESPN is pointless

His contract with ESPN won't be what keeps him from LSU. I think it's unlikely he want to coach in college.

Having said that, if he somehow wanted the job (he was rumored as having interest back when Saban was hired when he wanted out of Oakland), it could get done.

He's a real coach. He doesn't just dress up in a head set on Saturdays and hang around on sidelines losing track of time.
