Hey Sammich

Nick Saban has a 2-2 record versus LSU. Which LSU coach has he beaten twice?

you have no idea how good we have it now compared to the last 40 years. Those that don't understand are just immature, spoiled fans who have no loyalty to LSU, its players or the coaches

There were no internet message boards like this when I attended LSU during the 1970's, but it all sounds so very familiar. Charlie McClendon was LSU's winningest coach (still is in terms of total victories) but couldn't seem to beat Alabama and Bear Bryant enough to satisfy some fans. Never mind the fact that he did as good a job of it as any other coach in the SEC. The "Help Mac Pack" brigade wanted his hide.

They carped on about Louisiana having the best talent in the nation and a really good coach would be able to win national championships with it, Cholly Mac's offense was too conservative, etc. The LSU job would be such a plum every coach would want it. Surely we could do a lot better than McClendon. So they ran him out on a rail.

What followed were 20 dismal years of mostly dire football under such luminary coaches as Jerry Stovall, Curley Hallman and Gerry DiNardo, only briefly interrupted by a few "glory years" of Bill Arnsparger/Mike Archer. There were losing seasons when LSU fans would have given their right arms for an 8-5 record with a nice bowl win. (Miles' worst season so far)

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Les Miles may have his flaws, but his record speaks for itself and it would be insane to drive him off in the vague assumptions that there might be someone else out there who would be "better" and that we would get him. The odds are that we would wind up with a lot worse. Again!!

Saban would not come back if we offered him $5 MIL a year. He doesn't work like that. He did his work at LSU and has moved on. SO SHOULD YOU!!! BETTER COACH IS SABAN AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!

The odds are LSU is not nearly in the same position to bottom basement hire football coaches like we've seen before.

LSU has TAF, seat licensing and expenses to pay predicated on it's football income. The days f Joe Dean hiring cheap hacks is over, over, over. And the sooner the Louisiana old days mentality is gone from LSU the better.

Question: When Saban left to take the HC job in Miami, where there rumors of players leaving early because of Saban and players who were not happy with Saban "Welcome worn out so to speak" and I heard if Saban would have stayed - RP would not have switched for UT to LSU - Which actually would have been good because Colt McCoy would have stayed committed to LSU...

Decided to exit stage left, huh? Or are you almost done trying to find new stats since you can't make up your own?

But Les Miles was hired 5 years ago and you seem to think that LSU made a mistake with him, so you negate your own argument.

Every generation thinks they will never make the same mistakes of the previous generation. Things are different now. That would never happen to us. We're too smart for that. Then they go out and make the same mistake, in a slightly different way.

Les Miles has demonstrated his loyalty and commitment to LSU when he turned down the Michigan job to stick with his players. The least we can do is to show a little of the same loyalty to him and give him a chance to prove he can produce the long-term results we all want. If he can't, then we will have to pursue other options. But what he's accomplished so far certainly should entitle him to a couple of "down" years, and that's counting a year (this one) where he still might finish 11-2!

Not to take up for anyone else, but 2-2 is correct.

Easy to forget 95 vs LSU in the Independence Bowl with Michigan State.

I am not negating my argument in any manner. I do not want Les Miles fired. Les Miles can right his own ship, but I do think it needs to be righted.

The idea that LSU should just accept what it has because it could be worse it bullshite to me - pardon the language. It's that mentality that sets people up for failure. It's not where LSU stands now nor is it where LSU should stand.

LSU is no where near the same position it was even prior to 1999. LSU paid Nick Saban $1.6 million to be its coach for the 2000 season and that was unheard of at the time. We also implemented the athletic department improvements and TAF donations during this period.

LSU football is now a well supported, big time money maker and pays Les Miles almost $4 million per year. I am not worried about hiring the next Curley Hallman. If you are, then I ask you to step back and look at everything that has changed.

Sammich won't show up now. That's why he disappeared from this thread even though he was online before. He likes to take his agenda, make up facts and when he's called on it - he drops like a fly.

I may have my opinions, but I am all for LSU and if I am wrong in my assessment at this point, it's good for me because it means LSU football is on better footing that I believe it is.

You might want to retract this statement:

1995 LSU (DiNardo) beat Michigan State (Saban)
2007 LSU (Miles) beat Alabama (Saban)
2008 Alabama (Saban)beat LSU (Miles)
2009 Alabama (Saban)beat LSU (Miles)
2010 ???

Now that Sammich has been called out again, the thread has been anchored. Unreal.
