The Rise of the Tide (and the fall of the Tiger)

I think most people on this board would admit that when Saban finally landed at Bama they were (1) angry, and (2) certain that he could not attain the level of success at Bama that he did at LSU.
As I remember it, most felt that he would not win because he would not be able to recruit the same quality of athletes, that he would not win because he would not be able to recruit because he was now viewed as untrustworthy, that he would not win because he would not stay and deal with the Bama fanbase, etc.
We are now 2.5 years into the Nick Saban experiment at Bama and we have seen that he can recruit to Bama, perhaps better than he recruited to LSU. We have seen that people do not care about his untrustworthiness in the past, and we have seen that he really does not pay any attention to the Bama fanbase.
Furthermore, all signs indicate, much to the LSU fanbase dismay, that Saban has no intentions of leaving Bama until retirement.
Obviously things are not bad in BR. We are top 10 BCS school and loaded with talent for years to come.
However, I cannot help but feel that LSU is on the way down from the pinnacle and that Bama is on the way up.
Just three years in, most on this board seem to think that the Bama game is a sure loss (most thought that last year as well to be honest).
What have we learned in the last three years? Will Saban be more successful at Bama than he was at LSU? Has the rise of the Tide with Saban pushed LSU down a rung or two, and if so, will LSU be able to overcome it?

Only the delusional thought Saban would not do well at bama.
LSUs decline has nothing to do with bama or its coaches. It has everything to do with LSU and its coaches.
PERIOD.

We have learned that there will always be an oversupply of posters who are obsessed with Saban, no matter how tiresome and repetitive their commentary becomes.

Pretty much how I see it
Saban might be the best CFB coach in the land
He can rebuild in a hurry ....His defense is ridiculous..hard hitting, aggressive and confusing... Look what he did to Arkansas 35-7 a pretty good offense.
Saban isn't perfect, but in my mind he is the best in the business, so obviously we need to pray he has QB issues in the near future
He has a great D, depth, and a great running game, and they are well coached...they won't beat themselves...

If you mean the Auburn tiger I agree.

Saban's an excellent college coach. The only thing that has surprised me is how quickly things turned around for Bama. He's done a good job with the team thus far. I still don't like him.

You do realize that you can't do any better than winning a SEC and a National Championship?

LSU is 1-1 versus Alabama under Saban.
Many would argue that we should be 2-0.
Let's see what happens this year. I concede nothing until the scoreboard demands it.

I think LSU fans know what is happening in their gut but they just don't want to face reality because of how fun the last ten years has been. But Saban will be at Bama for a long time and the roles that LSU and Bama played for the last ten years have flipped in the sense that Bama is slowly gaining the upper hand in coaching and recruiting will follow from that. We are slipping into 9-3 or 8-4 territory for the forseeable future. I call it the Fulmer Syndrome.

DeltaDoc...I thought you had a good post and I agree with the majority of it.
Honestly, I first thought that Coach Saban would be the ONE college coach who could succeed in the NFL. I was very much surprised that he was not able to turn the Dolphin franchise around. I recall telling people that I thought he would have Miami back in the Super Bowl within 4 years. His one MAJOR mistake in Miami was courting and selecting Culpepper over Brees. I think that if he goes after Brees, he would still be in Miami today and leaving at the end of the season for Notre Dame.
At this time I honestly see him remaining in Alabama for the rest of his coaching days. What I see for LSU is the same fate as Texas and Oklahoma. Our seasons will be good seasons with everything hinging on the game with Alabama. I believe that we will win once or twice against Bama every five years.
Just my opinion

Not with Lester Miles leading the way.

I have a lot of respect for Saban and what he brings to the table. I absolutely LOVE his mindset of focusing on the process of being good, not on the end result. The end result will take care of itself.
That being said, Saban is like any coach. After a while their "Message" gets stale if they stay in one place for 5+ years. Everyone in the program (fans, coaches, media) start to tune them out. There are many examples of this phenomenon.
That's why I think this statement below is premature. I still think Saban will make another move before retirement.

I disagree. I thought sure that he would kick arse at Bama, and I was pissed that he was there.
