Archie Manning's supporting cast wasn't nearly as good as Tebowe's. Archie led Ole Miss on two late scoring drives to beat us when he was a Soph and Jr. We could nver tackle him when it counted. He broke his arm early in his senior year. He came back with a cast on his arm to play us. Unfortunately for the Rebels their defense could not stop the Tigers and we won by a big margin.

Agreed.. people on here are mostly too young to remember him scrambling.. Funny how those skills came in handy during his pro career...

Agree, as a younger guy compared to some, I don't fully appreciate how good Archie was when I was first thinking Tebow...

Saw both play. Manning, he did more with less. He could bulldoze and finesse. He was, by far, a more accurate passer. He elevated his teammates play. He was a smarter QB and it showed in the passing game and the game in general. Remember at that time the communication between bench and QB was limited so the game was in the hands of the player to a large degree. He was level emotionally....calm. The only thing he could not do was to beat us with one arm tied behind his back. He beat perhaps the best team we fielded between our NC yrs.

Oh, and one last thing, he did not cry like a baby at the drop of a hat.

Archie had nobody playing around while tebow had a ton of playmakers

Sorry, that isn't even close to being accurate. Ole Miss' 1969 team was as good as any team in the country at the end of the season. They were 4-2 in SEC play with two one point losses, 10-9 to Kentucky and 33-32 to Alabama. They beat three top 10 teams (at least at kickoff time) that year in Jackson, Georgia 25-17, LSU 26-23 and SEC Champion Tennessee 38-0.

Ole Miss was preseason SEC Champion choice by many in 1969 and 1970. Lots of All-SEC first and second team players both years.

also recall that Archie hurt his hopes of winning the trophy when his arm was broken against Houston his last year.
