Just curious. What makes him such a good o-line prospect other than need for the position?

everyone thought Downs was a center prospect and he wound up a DT... we've had many DLs turn out to be OLs... so who knows

I think he was worked out in camp at OL to get his offer, as far as reports go

not really - it was widely known that he could play OL or DL

I just a little concerned that we keep taking DL prospects and moving them to OL and not playing them for 2 years.

when we can recruite and OL guy and not play him for 2 years.

C'mon now, Louie.

It was pretty much a given on this and other boards that he was recruited as a center. It wasn't until he began blowing it up at the All-Star games (UA?) at DT that people took notice that he was a legit D-1 DT.

Jus sayin, brah.

Meh..alright.

But if polled, the vast majority of this board had him projected to play center b/c that's what he was supposedly originally recruited to play.

Huh? That makes 0 sense. Hitt is now a 3 year starter isn't he on the OL. Barksdale played significantly his TR FR season on the OL and started as TR SO last season at RT. Porter is going to be an OL and that will not be a surprise. The problem with the OL to a big degree is look at the attrition of guys who signed and no longer here:

Jarvis Jones -- starting RT for Oklahoma (may not be doing a great job)
Matt Allen -- starting for Texas A&M
Zhamal Thomas (name close to that) -- starting for Arkansas (involved in the Giddens stealing of credit cards and dismissed from team)
Steven Singleton -- homesick and ended up closer to Georgia in S. Carolina
Mark Synder -- medically had to give up football
Ernest McCoy -- playing for 2nd level Florida school I think (nooooo, not FSU
)
Ainsworth -- father died and at least for now gave up football but still at LSU I believe

Texas Southern is in Florida? They really oughta rethink the name of the school.

not saying some have not played early. Just saying that if we can change a kid from DL to backup OL why not just recruite kids for the OL and let them become backups and sit for 2 years.

We need DL help up the middle.

This is the way you recruit offensive lineman that arent sure thing at tackles...You identify the top 10 bigs on your board every year...You offer them and they sign..You can always move Dl in high school to guard or right tackle positions..its actually a easy transition.
