It's hilarious to me how people all of a sudden people find JL as "The Answer". Let me give my opinion on things...

We have a poor defensive line that has been underachieving this year. At most(on a majority of plays) JJ is getting a good 5 secs to throw the ball. This would be a sufficient amount of time to throw the ball if we weren't running plays where all of the routes take at the LEAST that long to develop, with no routes that give JJ someone to dump the ball off to when he's feeling that pressure and teams like Florida aren't going to let him scramble. When we did run a play like that last game, he passed to Charles Scott who picked up a good gain. When we didn't run plays that took that long to develop, JJ was hitting his receivers with quick passes.

Now, let's say JL was in the same situation. JL likes to go for it, so although he may be able to squeeze some passes in on those deep routes because he has the better arm, we also saw last year that his decision making isn't the best and again he trys to SQUEEZE passes in. This leads to interceptions and as we all saw last year pick sixes. Which we saw last year give a good 7-14 points to the other team, which no team, especially us, can afford. Not to add when he's pressured, he doesn't have the legs to get out of that situation.

Now granted, I'm not against letting JL see some action at some point in a game like Tulane or something, because it can't hurt to give it a try right? But I'm confident he's more than likely not going to change much. Neither is RS who isn't ready to be a starting QB, and hasn't thrown a collegiate pass yet. Neither is CG who also hasn't thrown a pass yet, and wasn't even in the battle for the starting spot this year. The coaches aren't dumb enough to keep a freshman who could POSSIBLY be the starter for the team at 4th string.

In my opinion, this falls mostly on the offensive play calling. Stop running the option so often...it's not working. Start running more plays that have a good variety of routes, and not just all short routes or all deep routes. Stop lining up with TH at WR so much....they don't believe you're running an end around on 3rd and 15. Our run blocking has gotten better each game, hand the ball off more to Scott. And finally...get the offense in some type of rhythm and stop with the random play calling, and being too predictable on other plays.

This is just my opinion on things, and I'm not THAT disgruntled right now because we're 5-1. Anyways, I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing these topics, but I'm interested to see what everyone else has to say. So discuss...

He should be right now. Jefferson is not getting the job done and is stalling this offense. Be it because the coaches call shitty plays or whatever, but no one trusts him.

I don't know that everyone finds JL to be "the answer". They just have a sick feeling that JJ is not.

After the past two games, more people are willing to give someone else a shot.

The play-calling is stalling this offense. JJ just happens to be the QB in it.

I agree with Laker. Good assessment of the situation.

Lee is the answer if we are not going to run the spread offense

Nonsense, to knowledgeable football fans Jarrett Lee is not the most popular guy on the team. I consider Jarrett Lee an emergency QB who should only play in 3 situations:

1) LSU blowout of a team
2) Teams blows out LSU
3) Jefferson is hurt causing him to miss MULTIPLE games....if only part of a game, Shepard should finish that one out.

This is a fair assessment. However, I honestly believe that as of right now, more than likely, NO quarterback on our roster is the "answer". Maybe one of them could be in the FUTURE, but as for right now, I don't believe any of them are the answer.

With that being said, I agree with you. It is fair to give Lee or another quarterback a shot; although I do not believe they should START a game. But like a said in my original post, giving one of them a drive or two in a game can't hurt.

I agree with this.

If fact, I think we should throw them all out and start over.

There's a 6th grader at the local elementary school who throws a mean slant. Kid can scramble, too. He might be a little undersized, but Moffit could bulk him up pretty quick.

Let's give him a scholly -- with the bye, he might be ready for Auburn. Not like he has a lot of plays to learn or anything.

Read todays DANDY DON column and he addresses the problems with the offense. He is right on the money in his assessment.

JL is not the answer (or so I don't think).
But, he might be part of the solution if used the right way.

Last year the keys were handed to JL. He wasn't ready, but no one else was for that matter. And No JJ wasn't ready either, just go watch the ole miss and ark games.
This year the keys are handed to JJ. He's still not ready. Just go watch any of the first 6 games. But, to this point he's really not costing us games like JL did last year. Still, I think JL should have been given a little playing time this year earlier in the season. Especially considering the struggles JJ has gone through at times.

Never did I think we would have a QB problem like this. LSU needs a pocket passer and Jefferson is not it. We need a Flynn type QB, a guy who can manage a game, but also make the necessary throws. We don't need a running QB. I'm mean come on the defense plays outstanding and Jefferson just stands there taking sacks throwing the game away. The man has no feel for pressure. It's obvious Miles has no confidence in him either. I'd rather Lee anyway. Reason he made so many mistakes was due to the fact he was forced into a situation he wasn't ready for. The coaching staff could have gotten him ready by this season.

My frustration is that Jefferson is the anti-Lee.

Either from witnessing Lee's INT's last year, or coaching to protect the ball, Jefferson looks scared to make a play. He does not look like he is even thinking about throwing the ball away.

We need some happy medium where we judiciously throw the ball. Make some easy short throws, some rollouts that if it is not there throw it into the stands.

But we seem to just do the same things over and over and expect a different outcome.

Ahh, isn't that the definition of insanity???

I'm not pro-Lee, anti-Jefferson, whatever. What I am is a guy that at least at some point in the game would like to see the coaching staff TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!! Put JL in for a series. Put RS in for a series. Hell, put him in for one play. What a frustrating season this is turning out to be.

Pat White could not pass any better than Shepard, yet he was a damn effective QB because of his speed. Let Shepard start and see how confused Auburn gets when he and Holiday run Crowton's option.

Pat White could pass better than Shepard. Read the practice accounts by those who attended practice OR better yet, see if you can find the QB challenge from the Under Armour All Star game in Florida last year. I believe Shepard finished last with wobbly passes not close to the targets and not a quick release either.
