If we lose a close game, I'll still be proud of this squad.

If LSU keeps the game close, takes it into the fourth quarter, and loses by a touchdown or less to the defending national champion, I won't be bitterly disappointed.

Only one result will really enrage me: a blowout loss. I don't want to endure another game like the 2008 contest. And I don't think I will have to. This team is better coached on defense. This team is more talented and mature in the secondary. Our linebacker play has improved. This team commits fewer turnovers.

I just want to see LSU compete doggedly and execute well, especially in Tiger Stadium. The worst aspect of last season was the spectacle of watching teams score fifty points on our defense.

A close game will prove to a lot of doubters that LSU is a legitimate power once more. A collapse on national TV will do the opposite.

I can't believe how far LSU has fallen. From a championship two years ago to "man I would be so proud if we only lost by a little bit at home." WTF?

How can you say this not knowing how the team plays? If they play lights out & lose a close game, I can agree to a certain extent. But if they play like they have most of the past year & half, whether they lose by a little or a lot is pretty insignificant.

We can be proud (or not proud) of the way they play AFTER the game. Right now, we should want nothing but victory...and not a freakin' moral victory.
