The decline of civilization

The descent of language on this board into coarseness and profanity has accelerated. The more civil tone of messages has been replaced by a somewhat general meanness that must have been noticed by others. Perhaps that is the nature of such an aggregation of partisans, or maybe it is just representative of the decline of discourse in the larger world, or of civilization itself. It seems worth noting, however, and also worth examination by those who congregate here.
