Short side of the field?

Is this the best side to run, with a pitch or a option play called? Seems to me with the speed on O we should geaux da other way.

Where's the cleverness and manliness in that?

God! I'm so glad i am not the only one. That drove me crazy. It made no sense. Run our speed guys the other way. Give them run to operate.

Noticed that too and agree.

I was saying the same thing last week.... I just don't freaking understand. The sidelines ALWAYS comes into play and eventually stops the play.

I was wondering about that myself:
Though the play failed (did it really have much of a chance?) and so my judgment is 20/20, I could not reason that loud brain fart of play, and for the coaches sakes, I hope there is good explanation.
It seemed like the team had 10 feet within which to work.

Hopefully someone can get thru Wed. night and ask Les that question. I would love to hear his excuse for that one. And he will have what he thinks we will believe to be a legit excuse/answer.

I know there are two schools of thought on running to the short side. One of them appeared to prevail for us yesterday - on the short side, the sideline acts as an extra defender.

Personal opinion...
if you have a powerful back, you can run to the short side and possibly break a couple of tackles.
if you have SPEED for your backs, you should run to the wide side.
the short side, the sideline does behave as as extra defender....obviously more thatn the wide side.

An even better question, why did we overload the short side of the field on defense at the end of the game?

We ran pitches to Trindon and KW to the short side a handful of times - all failures.
No f'in clue why we continue to make this call. Speed needs space to string out the "D" and make a cut.

Wife threatened to turn off the game after that play! Not because of the play call but because of all the crap I was yelling. haha

Coaches don't seem to be able to see the forest for the trees.. Same kind of plays and misstakes for the last 10 games ( except GT )

I completely agree an option play needs room to develop so why run it to the short side? I have noticed problems like these in our play calling so far this season; I hope this gets turned around.

I had my 2 year old grandson in the room so I had to restrain myself more than once. Play calling is not helping out the pitiful performance of our offensive line but I have to question the heart of some of our running backs. Where is the toughness and the drive that other great running backs have. If they were great, they would be getting more than they are. I still feel that this team can win the championship, remember what happened to Ga. Tech when the Tigers showed up to play. They have the talent, but do they have the heart?

Rickyh, heart has nothing to do with the discussion here. Having more heart isn't going to solve defenders in your face on the short side of the field for RBs with speed. There's either someplace to run or there isn't.

maybe they only practice it on one side

Exactly what I was saying.

Crowton must be using reverse psychology.
