I just dont understand thier possition. Why didnt Tulane want to play LSU exclusively in Death Valley?

There is no doubt that there would be more butts in the seats for a Saturday night game in Tiger stadium..........a place where fans can actually tailgate and park without paying $20 special event fee's (in most cases).

I'm guessing that if they had agreed to split up ticket proceeds every other year + the agreed monies, they would actually stand to make MORE not less than if the game were played in the dome.

Thier fans wont go to thier own home games for christs sake!! So you cant use the argument that the short road trip would hinder thier already laughable attendance.

I already understand why LSU wanted to do away with the series and I agree whole heartedly. I just dont understand Tulanes stedfast possition of not wanting to play in Tiger stadium exclusively (something I believe would have saved the series for them). The only argument that can be made is for the city of New Orleans.........not Tulane.

I dont believe the money for the Greenies would be less (they could have figured a way to better compensate if not). It wouldnt effect thier recruiting really since the game would be played in roughly the same area pool.

Any thoughts?

Probably wanted LSU to go to New Orleans for attendance purposes so they could stay D-1.

Because they play other BCS schools on a home and home basis and they do not want to be fricked by LSU.

They had a contarct with LSU .. LSU did not want to live up to said contract. Agreement reached. End of story.

This question has nothing to do with the pull out per say....so no. I didnt want to lump it in to those topics. The question deals with Tulane not wanting to play in Death Valley exclusively and why.

I just answered your question. Why make an exception just for LSU?

Other BCS teams might not mind comming to play in New Orleans because of recruiting. That incintive doesnt really exist for LSU.

If Tulane wanted to play LSU and benifit both financially and with exposure, what does LSU get out of it? Tulane has everything to gain, why wouldnt they want to make an exception?

then they should quit whining and go play these "bcs" schools that want to do a home and home with them....

none of them signed 10 year deals either....

Tulane can make more money playing a home and home with Texas or Ole Miss than playing two away games at LSU. That is why...not to mention LSU went back on their word and did not honor a contract.

I can understand the Tulane displeasure, but this is not the 1st time ever in college football that an agreed to series was cancelled cause one or both parties want to go a different direction. More than likely if you looked into the Tulane history, you will find that they pulled out of a series at sometime as well.

Dislike LSU if you want, but LSU kept this series going for decades past its prime. LSU is not to blame for Tulane not taking care of its program and therefore continuing to making this an attractive series for LSU. The last time I checked, I think Tulane had 4 wins over LSU in the last 50 years or so.

So, rather than getting all pizzy bout the change, perhaps Tulane fans would be better served to just say thank you LSU for keeping this series going for much longer than we deserved.

Your right Tulane was a fricking powerhouse when this present contract was signed three years ago

Tulane needed LSU fans for the attendance requirements. Tulane was willing to give up 40k in ticket sales to LSU (visiting) for attendance.

In the end, it was the lack of support of the Tulane fanbase more than LSU. Tulane could not get enough fans to the Dome.

I understand that point and it's valid as for as it goes. It just doesn't go far enough in considering the state changes that have taken place.

Look, I know this is not what Tulane wanted and I know it's a blow, but changes in college football schedules happen all the time and to all schools. You deal with it and you move on. Pizzing and moaning never did anything good for anyone, but each to our own.

Good luck to Tulane.

I have no links but I assume that the payday at Texas in 2003 was close to that tulane would get in BR (if not more). When Texas played in the dome they had 55k or so there and Tulane did not have to give Texas 40k Tickets. 50k * 25 bucks is a hell of a lot more than a guan. From LSU for a game in BR. To me that means they came out better with a home and home with texas than playing two in BR

I'm starting to lean toward the attendence argument. Unfortunately for Tulane, I think thier decline from D1 is inevitable. Especially when some highschools are doing a better job at getting thier fans in the seats then Tulane.

I liked the game in Nola in 2007... LSU should make a trip down here ever 4 years or so, maybe not every other year. I agree its not like tailgating on campus, but there's something different and fun about the game in the dome.
