Is there anywhere to get fried chicken (not Cane's - bone chicken) within walking distance of campus? There used to be Popeye's on Highland on the north side, but its gone. I want to park my car and then walk to get some chicken on Saturday -

I usually cook, its a long story, not getting into it, but that might not work for me this week.

That Popeye's shut down 13 or 14 years ago.

Does it have to be walking distance?

13 or 14 years? is my sense of time that far off? I know I ate there in college and I thought for sure I ate there when I moved back 10 years ago.

I would prefer to get parked and then deal with getting food, that is why I said walking distance, but I am thinking I may have to pick something up on the way in and then park.

Maybe he is thinking of the one that was on Highland on the Southside at lee.. That one closed 3 years ago.. The service there was the worst in the city and it wasnt even close..

Oh wait..they're not there anymore.

My best friend's parents ran that place for about 10-15 years..loved the chicken & boudin balls.

I agree on the worst service. We used to pick up chicken there for tailgating and it was a joke. We put up with it because it was convenient.

If you're talking about the one next to the police station north of LSU on Highland, it's not there anymore...there's supposed to be a new "Queen's Crispy Chicken & Mediterranean Food" opening there soon, whatever that is.

A long time ago there was a Popeye's where the Jack in the Box is now, but it's been gone for a while.

On the corner of W. Roosevelt and Highland, go to Quick Sack, very good chicken.

At the Texaco on Nicholson by the Chinese Inn closer to the new bridge they sell Krispy Krunchy Fried Chicken, but that's a hell of a walk.
