Did anybody notice how Jordy was baffled by Chavis' halftime speech after the pathetic first half defensive showing? Something about "you must want".

Jordy came on the air after halftime and explained to Jim that the halftime speech by Chavis was, to put it nicely, very underwhelming considering how poorly the defense played in the first half.

Jordy said "....that's all he said...i'm not even kidding."

Chavis was saying something to the players like "You need to want. You have to want." and that was it.

No use of the dry erase board or anything. He made it all about personal effort, not anything about playing out of position or poor tackling.

"YOU NEED TO TACKLE"...is what he should have said.

I did. Jordy kinda sound shocked, stunned that nothing else was said. Wonder if Miles or the other coaches even talked ...

Whatever he said, it seemed to work, the defense played much better in the 2nd half.

Their head was not in the game in the first half. Do any of you morons actually think a coach needs to tell a defensive player "you need to tackle"? They play on defense for gods sake. They know they need to tackle. It's about effort and focus. They were not in the game mentally. "You need to want" is a perfect way to get that point across in my opinion.

anyone who would tell their kids to "tackle better" after that 1st half truly doesn't understand football at all. Their biggest problem on defense was being too undiscplined, especially early in the run game, thats why Polk had those long runs, and the long screen pass was a perfect play call.

Whatever the speech, it appeared to work. For example, I thought the poor UW back was taking his life in hand on those off tackle runs in the second half. In the 1st half those off tackle runs were wide open.

Thanks coach, but i would hopefully assume we got past the "wanting it" phase when a kid signs on to play for the LSU Tigers. Do they need to be reminded??? How bout some strategy.

You have a good point. Also, Chavis is not Pellini or Muschamp. Maybe he expected to see him scream, yell and break $hit. There are ways to get your coaching points across without acting like a madman.

No...Just do like last year and assume the players dont need to be coached up....

Please think before you post.....

Not very much. There were still way too many drives that were not 3 and out. That is what my concern is.

This board is reminding me of comments about Pellini after ASU and Tennessee in 2005.

Um, did you watch the same game that I did? The "undisciplined" part was very much comprised of poor tackling.
